Brings back some memories of the many times I hitch hiked that route in the 80s. Just disappointed there wasn’t an instructional video to prepare me.
when I was a child, my family drove that route in the 1970s and it was pretty much a normal drive, if you were a civilian. There were tall concrete walls on both sides of the autobahn to prevent us from being entranced by the workers’ paradise but that was about it.
The trip from Gutenberg to Berlin via ferry and rail was for more surreal (they boarded up the train’s windows and police in fancy uniforms patrolled the aisles).
