you could say this of thousands of businesses that use open source code and contribute absolutely nothing back

I have often wondered why, when stores close, landlords leave the spaces empty for years at a time instead of lowering rents. The answer, apparently, is banks often won't let them:

This map shows the 50 countries in the world where you can (mostly) drink the tap water. But: “Fewer than one billion people have a tap at home that issues potable water.” bigthink.com/strange-maps/drin…
in reply to kottke.org

This map really screwed up my brain today. I always knew there are many things I take for granted that are not a universal fact. But this? That’s a lot of the world.
in reply to kottke.org

When we visited China, we found public fountains labeled as safe for drinking at airports and other public spaces. Other than that, when we mentioned that in the US we drank water straight from the faucet, people were absolutely puzzled. Not awestruck, just confused. Like if we had told them that we cleaned our feet in the dishwasher.

We had to say goodbye to our sweet Happy. She was the very best girl & we had so many adventures together. Happy hiked mountains in Colorado, camped with us in Texas, ran across California’s beaches & pranced through the Michigan snow.

She named herself Happy & loved every person she ever met. We have always felt extremely lucky to find her on Congress Ave & came to call her our Austin terrier since she was a little bit of every breed. We will miss her every day. #dogsofmastodon

I’m so very sorry for your loss, Sheril – they leave such a large hole in our hearts when we have to say goodbye 💗

This post reminded me that I wanted to try this game, and after watching some trailers and seeing the update history, I decided to buy the "family" 4 pack. I'm playing single player at the moment but I am very excited to gift the 3 copies to my friends and get a server fired up! It's a blast!

Sounds good, but the only Steam Family Sharing update I want to see is:

- No longer locking the ENTIRE library if a family member is playing a completely different game to what you want to play

That has always pissed me off about it.

sadly not gonna happen. Had to buy enough games twice for steam not to miss out on those profits 😔

A project I did for Halloween this year was these talking pumpkins, which were a hit with our trick-or-treaters!

I ended up spending more effort on creating an ugly paper mache rock to hide my projector than the actual pumpkin effects, which were pre-rendered videos I purchased.
