Text console or SSH session -- conceivably with a multiplexer like tmux or screen.
Give me a desktop environment, whatever it is, and I'm all about "how do I open a terminal window".

Xfce has been my choice for over a decade. Simple, lightweight and customizable.

i'm comfortable even with tty, but i stay with Sway (Window Manager) now

I've been using Cinnamon for years, and it's worked well for me.

None, actually. Last time I used a full blown DE as such was in the KDE3 days.
I just pick a good WM (Awesome at the moment, 7 years and counting) and add suitable pieces of software from different DE's.

Niri with Noctalia-Shell as bar, lockscreen and wallpaper manager

Doesn't really matter. Nowadays there aren't really bad ones anymore.

since switching from Windows over a year and a half ago, I’ve become accustomed to the layout of KDE. But I notice sway being mentioned a bit here. I’m going to have to check that out.

I've only used cinnamon. But i do hear kde is a fan fave.

Me and my wife both use KDE both private and in our small company.

On thing that makes KDE special is Activities. I can have different activities for different "scopes" like personal, volunteering, my company, different customers. Each with a set of 6 virtual desktops. Yea, and I do use a lot of desktops to keep focused 😋

I use Niri with a custom desktop shell I made with Quickshell

Plasma, XFCE, MATE... Or even CLI.

Any! Cause Linux feels home for me, something that would not, would be something that isn't owned by myself :BlobhajHeart:.

I use GNOME. I was expecting everyone else to say either GNOME or KDE, but I see lots of other desktops, diversity is very nice
in reply to It's FOSS

Normally gnome, but recently I switched to Budgie and I like it
in reply to It's FOSS

KDE on PC and for the laptop I will probably use COSMIC
in reply to It's FOSS

Currently it is the Cinnamon desktop as that is the one I use daily. It has been different in the past when I used a different distro instead of Mint. I used Linux Lite and its default desktop for 8 months last year before the switch to Mint. I did not like the Kubuntu desktop when I tried it, and never gave Lubuntu's desktop a lot of time. I don't know what Ubuntu 10.04's desktop was called, it was the first Linux desktop that I liked. I stared on CDE years ago.

i am happy with Linux Mint in Cinnamon, as I moved away from Windows 10. I feel good 👋
in reply to It's FOSS

currently still gnome but I'm playing with hyprland a lit lately.

KDE is amazing but damn it just looks ugly to me no matter what I try.

Sensitive content

in reply to It's FOSS

it used to be xfce (with linux mint), but now it's COSMIC (shipped with Pop!_OS), which is just beautiful with auto tiling of the windows and Fira fonts pre installed
in reply to It's FOSS

Mate cause it feels like the classic Gnome back when I loved Gnome.
in reply to It's FOSS

#Gnome is home. #kde always felt so beta and shabby (I know it's probably better today) so I stuck to Gnome.
Currently trying something new with #niri - feels really good, but you immediately feel the advantages of a full-blown desktop env (lots of manual configuring)
in reply to It's FOSS

I really tried to like Gnome and some others, but for almost 25 years now I always end back at #KDE.
#KDE
