As some of you may have already noticed, in the latest #Mastodon update, we've reworked the layout of the web app for smaller screen sizes. It should be easier to navigate and more pleasant to the eye. Let me know what you think!

Hi Eugen, thanks for this. 😀

I am using a multi-column layout here (in the internet browser).
Should I see a difference, too?
Or is the change only visible when using the normal layout?

in reply to Eugen Rochko

reordering menu items wasn't necessarry imo, already clicked on Trending instead of Notifications couple of times
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Just a spontaneous question:

Could you make it possible that users remove "Trending" from that list?

I never look at what's trending, so the menu would be shorter in this case. 😀

Love the look & feel, had trouble dismissing the sidebar once, not sure what was going on.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

nice, it’s now even better. So easy to use Mastodon web on mobile I don’t even feel like I need any app for that.

Somewhat better fit on Amazon Fire 7" screen. Would have been helpful to announce it was coming out. Thought at first that Amazon had somehow interefered.

Too easy to hit screen controls for tablet when trying to use Mastodon controls since both are at the bottom of the screen.

App on my mobile iPhone SE 3 small sized is giving error 200 on clicking notification bottom.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Still getting used to the buttons in different places, but I really like more space for the posts!
in reply to Eugen Rochko

It's nice. But you could keep the menu on top or make it bigger like the app.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Looks great! But my "Trending" is broken. It's full of dystopia 🫠
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I like the drop-down menu for Lists. Mildly dislike the Big Blue Rectangle for New Post, but I suppose I'll get used to it.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Does that have "safe area" inset padding? I've been meaning to open an issue for implementing that for the last few years. 😅 That's been a sore spot for using the web app as a PWA on iOS.

Update not avail yet for iPhone in Canada. Would be swell if Mute worked correctly though. Via browser I'm able to choose for how long to mute (even if I have to use a second screen - poor UX IMPO) but on app it is mute forever or nothing. Just a suggestion. Thanks for your consideration.

I didn't even know there was an official Mastodon phone app. Honestly, it seems like you might be better off encouraging people to use community-developed apps instead of taking that on yourself, and focus limited resources on the server/API?

I mean, you do you, but it feels to me like a waste of time when there's great apps out there already.

Good luck, though. I appreciate the work you guys do!

in reply to Eugen Rochko

My only ask would be to have the menu items moved to the left side. I am regularly hitting one of them when simply trying to scroll.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I love my Mastodon server, but I access the front-end exclusively through a self-hosted Phanpy instance. I think it's a great client.

Thank you.

It still prints very badly in Firefox, smushing the middle column, unlike for example reddit.com with a similar layout and usable printing.

I don’t like having two menu bars (top and bottom) where one is mostly empty, wasting space.

Also you are showing the top menu bar under the sliding menu from the right but I get it over the menu (see image) making the top menu item inaccessible.

And the last thing I would like to mention is that trends and search have two different icons while they are the same page. Maybe it’d be better to improve consistency here with some icon that covers both.

I like that the right sidebar disappeared. No space for it on a phone screen! But I would maybe *slightly* increase the font size. 😀
in reply to Eugen Rochko

A very nice improvement, thank you!

Seeing no Mastodon logo when viewing a post as a logged out user feels a bit weird tho.. 🙂

ja, viel besser, danke! wenn jetzt noch Fotos angepasst würden, wäre es perfekt.

Menu bar at side gone - great!

All images still have this massive "Hide" over them, meaning an unnecessary tap to see what it's hiding. Maybe not OVER it?

I want able to change text size as I feel like.

@Nillia You should be aware it is not safe to run 3.5.x at this point as it has not received security updates for a very long time. I will also disagree on the design as it is not easy to navigate with the thumb when the navigation is at the top of the screen.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Is there an option to revert the sidebar to the left side of the window?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

To be honest I really dislike the home, notifications, search and new post being at the bottom not in a pinned sidebar. I only use Mastodon on mobile and have never wished for more space for posts at the expense of access to functions. I found it easier to navigate using the sidebar options than having everything stuck at the bottom of the screen or hidden.

I also don't like the fact "trending" is in the sidebar options and can't be hidden.

Directamente, me parece un rediseño fantástico, aunque he notado, que las secciones han sido reorganizadas. ¿Alguna posibilidad de personalidar, el orden en que aparecen dichas secciones en el menú en futuras versiones?. 🤔
