After a complete disaster a while ago that saw many developers jump-ship, and cause a huge PR problem, Unity have now cancelled the Runtime Fee.Liam Dawe (GamingOnLinux)

They'd have to do a whole lot more to regain trust, like open sourcing to be able to compete with Godot, and I Very Much Doubt they ever would do that.

I think this whole ordeal angered me personally because learning a new engine and APIs means dedicating so much time that you learn a new way of thinking.
If a company then uses that to trap an entire community, in my opinion that's just evil.
