I thought Windows' `AppData` directory is a mess until I used Linux for a while. It's always a mess.

I have a tmp directory for that, my ~ is clean, but that tmp is chaotic as hell.

ignoring state files, it's usually a mess for WM without DE.

Many Linux/WM developers don't follow convention over configuration...

I recently tried #hyprland, which is currently the only WM/DE in stable #NixOS with wayland fractional scaling support.

And, I spent so much time to get just some bar/panel working, that was ugly and very limited in functionality compared to #GNOME shell (I used before.- very nice) or KDE, or XFCE.

I ended up switching to #KDE and NixOS unstable.

Is there any software or guide to aid in "cleaning up" Linux? I've looked a few times, but it seems the question is ungoogleble. I'd like to tidy up everything, packages, the applications menu, config files, all the hidden stuff in my home folder, whatever.

Thank you! I think apt autoremove might help. I think I'm just going to have to reinstall and form better habits, though. There's probably not a good technical or systematic solution to my hording of old config files or installing of countless packages I don't use, haha
