Couldn't have said it better myself. (And I'm literally writing a dissertation related to motivated reasoning & cognitive bias).

How I miss Calvin and Hobbes.

Between our current legislatures and the media who interpret them for us I could make a career of sending them this one.

Me too. Greatest cartoon strip, ever. My daughter had half of Bill's work memorized by age 10.

This accurately describes the MAGA ideology, from Kellyanne Conway's "Alternative Facts" to QAnon to The Big Lie. When they can't argue the facts, they attack the veracity of the data, and in some cases, even the very idea that something can be objectively known.

James Comer (R-KY) even went as far as to suggest that his opinion, his belief, should be considered equivalent to an objective, data-driven consensus, saying, "Who makes the decision as to who determines what's misinformation and what's not? One thing that you make think is disinformation I may believe is fact. Who's gonna decide?"

The attack on science, and even truth itself, is so dangerous.

my main rule is that if one lives in a world where subjective reality is strongly dissonant with objective reality, i need to give consent to enter that world.

i don’t like being pulled into hostile places.

but that’s just a bit of psychology mixed in with improv.

I was at a Friends of the Library sale and bought several of the Calvin and Hobbs books.
