The one thing I absolutely love us that my personal computer is My PERSONAL Computer. I can do with it as I see fit, I'm not restrained by what Microsoft or Apple says I am or am not allowed to do with it. If I want to make it look and feel like Windows 7, I can do that. If I want to run a tiling window manager, I can do that. Linux is freedom.

idk if this is just a KDE thing but being able to paste from the clipboard directly into a file is AMAZING and saves me so much time! Gone are the days of pasting a print screen into ms paint in order to save it! It's the feature I miss most when I have to use Windows for work.

The config files, they make life so much easier when switching between distros and its even better when using a window manager. Sure it takes time to initially setup the window manager but after that just move the config files to .config directory and you're done in less than 2 mins. :blobcatcoffee:

the shell. Scripting with it, ssh-ing into a host and having full control, chaining commands... I love it.

Graphic interfaces are great and needed, but I am Server-Side team 😎

the diversity of approaches, in terms of distros and desktop environments. You're bored with your current system? -> Maybe try something else. You want to stick to the same reliable system you know and love? -> That's OK! You've got the freedom to choose between rolling releases, regular upgrades or LTS system! You also have the freedom to distro hop.

There are so many things I like about Linux, not being owned by a big corp, having a huge amount of free and safe software at my disposal, having a more secure system in general.

But if I had to choose one thing over all else, I'd say it's resisting planned obsolescence. Planned obsolescence is destroying the world, as tons of tech garbage fill the landfills because the manufacturers make the devices not to last. Linux allows me to keep an older computer running almost as new,

You can customize and do with OS anything you want also you aren't forced to unwanted updates.

its free and i can install anything - also - no ads ;p

Truly owning my OS, and feeling safe using my software without the looming threat of unwanted amounts of tracking following me around everywhere 😃

At least that's how it started. After a while, I also fell in love with the Open Source philosophy as a whole, thus leading me to double down on #Linux and using it exclusively. Thanks to everyone who contribute their time and knowledge to these projects, you're heroes! 🦸 🦸‍♀️ ✊

the philosophy behind its use, I mean, do it by yourself and share it for the common good. 😃

I love that I can leave my machine turned on for months, shake the mouse, do my whatever, and it.. just..keeps..going

Oh and no-nag updates are pretty sweet.

On other platforms, if something doesn't work, it's mostly that some corporation doesn't want me to do that specific thing.
On Linux, if something doesn't work, it's mostly that I broke it or it just hasn't been implemented yet.

well I love many things about Linux, but my first love of Linux is BB, the demo for AA-Lib
in reply to It's FOSS

The fact that I can break it all I want, and it will let me do it all day long.

it's awesome in personalization, you can have those same apps but have a completely different experience across different distributions and even on the same one. On windows it's a static, made by a company theme, no changing. The only reason I don't use linux are the games, even though recently it has improved alot.

The one and reason why I love GNU/Linux is that I have full control over my computer and laptop.
