I was reading this a few minutes ago when it suddenly disappeared from the screen and was nowhere to be found. I hadn't finished 😀
But now I have read it. Yes, this is so strong and I often feel this could happen. People living in fear because they grasp at 'reasons' uttered by other clueless people, reading personal opinions in social media and mistaking them for truth because 'it's published', and the ones confusing genuine, valid questioning with suspicion.

given our inability to predict the future more than 5 years out, there are very few people who can grasp the issues, and that includes the people holding the power.

Carl had it figured out. More like him, less of everything else. haha

Demon-Haunted World has got ever more relevant over time. I wish more people were reading it.

I'm currently listen to the audio book (read by Cary Elwes! #swoon) of this and I am enthralled. I need to work this into our curriculum in some way!

Reason and Logic support scientific method of thought… scientists may not have all the answers or get it right every time, but the Method works. The failure to grasp the very principles of rational thought gives rise to "alternative facts" and allows everyone the liberty of choosing ignorance at the peril of us all.

Well, we’ve been sliding back into superstition and darkness for at least 2000 years by the JC calendar and probably longer than that, so in that sense a fairly pithy summation of recent human history.
