Hello Fediverse! "followers" (hopefully also followers of followers, :boost_requested:)

I *know* you have a topic (practical or pedantic 😛) to share with the #fediverse in a 10-15 min talk, so I'd like to invite y'all to sign up for #solsticeschool2023 as a presenter! It's good fun, flexible to schedule, and a way to see some of the folks you interact with here in another medium! Also a nice way to find others to interact with!

#Abstract / talk description due July 1

I gave a talk last year about #CommunityBio labs and how the lab I'm helping to organize, Biotech Without Borders, fits into that. I adapted the talk from something I had prepared for students at a local community college. It was a great exercise to sharpen my ideas and get some feedback (encouragement and queries) from a different crowd. It was titled:

Community biology as an organizational framework for social change: a perspective from Biotech Without Borders

I really would like work on it

@XavCC I believe the transcript for the BwoB summer school talk is just text on the programme website

The talk I gave with @Defectivebrayne about @MicrobioJC is on google though... and I moved it here in case that's what you wanted

I made a submission this morning.

I have no credentials, just a fair amount of passion. I'm not sure if I'm the kind of presenter you're looking for, but I've been working on a talk for a few days prior to seeing this.

@ajroach42 yes! The more the merrier. I've spent a fair amount of time in academia and I also identify as a hacker. In my perspective passion, willingness to learn, and courage to jump into a toy/prototype is the best way to get a journey to greater understanding started!

The talk I've been working on is based on this text: https://communitymedia.network which I wrote in a kind of fever, a few weeks ago.

I think it will be educational and entertaining.

there was a talk last year titled "Representations of AI - Why we need to do better" and I could see something about unicorns in a similar vein... Maybe an imperative for improvement is out of scope but maybe some other analysis would be applicable.

There was also "Transparent Minds in Science Fiction"

Oh I literally meant the creatures themselves! I know nothing about the other type 🤣
in reply to ❄️Faerie❄️

yes I meant the creatures themselves! And given your reaction perhaps the relation to the "investment entity" could be (an element of) the analysis.

I don't remember it in the storied/monstrum video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqvpfHHfCl8&t=2
