Are there any #beetle specialists in the #fediverse? Had this in the moth box this morning. At least 4cm long (measured at 4, possibly 4.2cm) App says King Diving Beetle but they're quite rare round here. More likely Great, but I see gold edge rather than yellow and seems too big. Grateful for any assistance

Edit - location: Hastings, UK

I am in Phoenix to give a talk at ASU, and I took some time to go to the nearby #botanical #garden. Incredibly beautiful #cactus. It's amazing how large they can get. I grew up in Tucson, so it reminded me of the hikes I used to take with my family.

Hi Mastodon #garden lovers or #soil knowers or #fungus experts, I have no idea what I've come home to in part of my newly planted garden, #help? looks like some sort of #seed? I recently added a heavy dose of #compost to this garden and planted lupin seeds underneath this particular area, but this looks odd!

Fog Farming. This would work along many seacoasts. It would have been great in Sonoma & other CA coastal areas. In my long ago Sebastopol #garden, the trees over my gardens provided at least of quarter of the garden's #water needs, met by #fog condensing on & dripping from the trees / vines above. Nice that it's DIY #lowtech.:

I have lots of squash.

Most weeks, I bake an ovenful of squash: Cut into halves or quarters, scoop out seeds, bake on a tray for 40 min or so. Scoop the squash out into a container.

Now, there's a million things you can do with this ready squash in your fridge. e.g. Lasagne, soups.

Today, I had uchiki kuri squash under two fried eggs. Eggs were purchased directly from a local farmer with well kept laying hens.

It was so simple and so good. That's all.
