Cold Morning at Chefron (2023)

Fun fact - I took this image about 15min before I fell through the ice into the river below... That was the first of two times I would fall into a river in winter that year. I wouldn't recommend.

Thankfully, I was nearby my car and had a sleeping bag and dry clothes ready to change into! Paid off to be prepared.

Canadians using Twitter/X are being bombarded by misleading right-wing posts designed to boost Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and tarnish the reputation of Mark Carney.

The FT’s analysis finds a growing volume of that misinformation is coming not from Russia or China, but the United States.

Republican rebels try to stop Trump's Canada tariffs

Four Republican US senators have broken ranks and voted with the Democrats in an effort to block President Donald Trump's tariffs against Canada. In a rare display of opposition to the president, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul and Susan Collins helped to vote through a resolution 51 to 48 to end Trump's emergency declaration on fentanyl trafficking that he has used to justify tariffs on Canadian imports.

I wish I didn't have to tell you about this again, but I do. It's not being reported much in the news β€” and you know why?

Because it's not 'new' (the origin of the word 'news'), it's old. This has been going on for months now, and corporate news outlets are simply tired of reporting it. But it is still happening.

Canada's boreal forests are burning up.

At least 1100 fires are active, more than 700 out of control. Over 13 million hectares have been burned so far, with no end in sight. It's an unprecedented climate and environmental disaster.

Helping a colleague to promote a worthy event at the UofT. I really like the fact that it is multidisciplinary, not just political science but also journalism and history.

"This panel brings together diverse voices to discuss how Chinese in Canada have historically been treated, and what lessons there are for people-to-people exchange today."
