Webb’s first images showed 2 stars, a dying star and its orbiting companion, in the Southern Ring Nebula. Webb scientists now think more hidden companions helped shape the gas and dust here, potentially a total of 5 stars! More: go.nasa.gov/3UMDo5j

Here, the first panel highlights thicker, curvier wisps at the edges of the nebula, while the second panel highlights straight lines. Researchers project that the latter may have been shot out hundreds of years earlier and at greater speeds than the shorter, curly lines.

Just how dark is dark?

Astronomers studied 200,000 Hubble images and made thousands of measurements to look for any residual background glow in the sky.

In Valencia (Spain) the occultation of Mars by the Moon will occur at 6:21:49 CET and will end at 7:08:06 CET tomorrow, December 8, but unfortunately it will be cloudy.
