Smelly science!

Carbon Mapper will use data from @nasa's EMIT mission and current airborne and future satellite instruments to detect methane from waste sites. Methane is the source of roughly a quarter to a third of global warming caused by humans! https://go.nasa.gov/3WkjkZn

Team Earth! 🌎

Water connects us all – and that couldn't be more true than with the international SWOT mission, which was jointly developed by @nasa and @CNES with contributions from @csa_asc and @spacegovuk.

Follow along! SWOT is set to launch on Dec. 15. #TrackingWorldWater

The heart of SWOT!

A new Earth-observing satellite will survey water on more than 90% of Earth’s surface and see our planet's water in higher definition than ever before. An instrument called the Ka-band Radar Interferometer (KaRIn) is making it possible: https://go.nasa.gov/3FgGMzQ
#NASAJPL

KaRIn has been designed to capture very precise measurements of the height of water in Earth’s freshwater bodies and the ocean. And unlike other satellites, it can take measurements regardless of cloud cover or time of day.

SWOT is set to launch on Dec. 15. #TrackingWorldWater

Fun fact: X-ray brightness mainly depends on the size of the star. In other words, the bigger the stellar sparkler, the brighter it will glow in X-rays. ✨

Alaska holds 40% of U.S. surface water resources but is largely unmonitored due to its size and terrain.

The upcoming SWOT mission will collect data to help fill gaps in these remote places and provide valuable info to local decision-makers. https://go.nasa.gov/3W2FUFN

By #TrackingWorldWater, SWOT will allow scientists and water managers to understand how often streams experience low- and high-flow conditions and develop a reference point to evaluate current conditions - all from the vantage point of space. https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx9lRtaXCnPaBFQWjfUBaANbnxMwgRpQnU

A kaleidoscope of grains to study🔬
Unlike the 15 rock cores collected to date, 2 samples taken by @NASAPersevere are filled with broken rock & dust. Studying these could help teams design safer missions & equipment, especially for future Mars astronauts. http://go.nasa.gov/3YgdutY

Look up!

Mars slips behind the Moon tonight (called an "occultation") for viewers in most of the U.S. If you're in the East Coast or the Southeast, the Moon will appear to just barely graze past Mars.
