Generations of Giants
Within a globular cluster orbiting the center of our galaxy, @NASAHubble found two separate populations of red giant stars, one unusually helium rich. These observations challenge ideas about formation. Did they arise together? go.nasa.gov/3mk1Ekc
#NASAExoplanets
in reply to NASA

it make sense if they started out more or less at the same time and they are of the order of star that would become a red giant (like our own), they would age into red giant about the same rate. Most interesting. Lovely too.

Hubble's 2004 view shows Casseiopeia A in visible and near-infrared light. These observations highlight the complex structure of the star's shattered fragments and clumpy debris, which glows with the heat generated by a shockwave from the supernova blast. go.nasa.gov/3Mq5Zgu

Cassiopeia A went out with a bang!

This supernova remnant, imaged by Hubble and @NASAWebb, is the leftover material from a massive star's death.

Studying Cas A across different wavelengths of light gives scientists a broader understanding of this supernova remnant.

Introducing the Mercury 7!

The first seven @nasa astronauts were revealed #OTD in 1959, just six months after the establishment of the space agency.

The Mercury 7 were the test pilots who knew they could die, but they were the heroes that the US people needed. This was beginning of the space race, which was also showmanship of intercontinental ballistic missile technology during the Cold War. It created jobs for many veterans who used the GI Bill to get advanced degrees.
