long before Magellan sailed the Southern Oceans (15th Century) , Pacifica peoples including Maori from Aotearoa New Zealand would have seen the magellanic clouds. In the northern hemisphere they are only visible on the horizon at a latitude of 20N. Maori called them Nga Patari-Kaihau, or Te Reporepo.

It's impossible to keep up with the rate of progress in the Sciences (as with the rest of society) nowadays. Judging by video this is a southern hemisphere location and so it turns out - Namibia. But if I'd heard of this project in 2004 - I'd long forgotten it. Fascinating.
