WOW! This guy knows how to create an exciting piano cover of popular songs! This one is of Toto's Africa.

Bence's version has too much post-production - you see him playing the bass line, but you're hearing the high notes.

Desmond, my Siamese cat, has Victorian waif down to a fine art.

He will sit at the far end of the hallway from the front door with his head tilted to one side, and a look of bereft anguish in his round blue eyes.
Desmond: "Oh mumma, why...why are you leaving my little sister Moki and I all alone in the cold cold house?

And when I return, same position and same look, but now he says..
Desmond: "Oh mumma, my little sister Moki and I are ever so hungry! All we have had to eat are the moths we caught in the porch!

Can you hear the violins playing in the background?

"Out of reading [The Dawn of Everything] a colleague and I, Federica Carugati who's a political scientist, started a project called Governance Archaeology. Where we started more systematically cataloguing diverse practices of self-government throughout history, around the world, and starting to develop partnerships with communities that are stewards of these practices."

ah yes, indigenous languages died out because they were like appletalk, and not because the indigenous people were nearly wiped out as a result of manifest destiny

and somehow linkedin has failed to moderate this comment about a link to a blog describing an indigenous person’s attempt to create an LLM that speaks Cheyenne 🙃

February 2024 was the warmest on record. These sea surface temperature percentiles are…. worrying. #ClimateChange
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

It was also the ninth straight month this occurred for the month in which it occurred.

If it happens for three more months, and then again on the 13th month, supplanting the current record set less than a year ago, we will know - even those who are asshole shitbag for profit climate change deniers like Dr. Matthew Wielicki will have a very difficult time convincing people we are not truly fucked.

Because all the evidence says we are.

Elon Musk's X platform, formerly known as Twitter, is "definitely" going to remove the number of "likes" and retweets from feeds, the executive said Wednesday night. pcmag.com/news/elon-musk-twitt…
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron My guess is inauthentic behavior; that lots of likes and retweets are the product of bots. Twitter can obfuscate the bot problem by prioritizing views to create the illusion of authentic impressions.

Accidentally opened Steam on my M1 MacBook Air.

Rust (the game, not the language, you nerds) runs on Macs!?

But not on #Linux (I know why).

I wonder how many people play this game on a Mac 🤔

I used to play it on #Ubuntu quite a lot. Bit of a time-sink. So it's probably for the best that I don't play it anymore. It just baffled me that it's possible to download it. Not that I will, obviously 😇

FWIW, it wasn't illegal for the creator to sell their emulator for a price. Bleem won that decades ago. But I can understand if they don't want the stress after Yuzu and Citra.

I was planning to get one of those samsung tab ultras for uni, as the timing would match with the snapdragon gen 4 release (the one that's beefier than an M2 or 3) so that I could also play zelda tokt on it (their displays are gorgeous). I do have the apk of the last release, but it's a bummer I'm probably stuck with what's supported right now unless someone dares to continue development (which, tbh, is probably going to happen).

in reply to Muse

If you follow the multiple universe theory, a person can travel through time and possibly change someone else's future, but they cannot change their own future.

theconversation.com/time-trave…

in reply to Muse

This is touched upon in Simon Hawke's The Ivanhoe Gambit - a time traveler takes the place of Richard the Lionheart to prove his theory ... that a timeline 'split' (changed event) does not become catastrophic if the time traveler continues to exert pressure on the changed timeline, forcing the two versions further apart.

(Richard is killed in 1199. His brother, John, takes the throne and proves so inept that the barons rebel and force him to sign the Magna Carta. But what if Richard doesn't die, and the Magna Carta is never signed ...?)
