Scientists believe they’ve finally found the source for the mysterious Wow! signal. I’m a little sad - I once designed and knitted it into a “mystery scarf” for a competition. Great job Science, but I’m sad it wasn’t aliens… 👽 boingboing.net/2024/08/29/sour… #knitting

Deadlock surpassed 100,000 concurrent players, Valve adds wall jumping gamingonlinux.com/2024/08/dead…

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Looks nice.

But: I am a little bit sick of kiddy friendly colorful non-sensical games. It's the Fortnite-ism of the gaming industry, imho. Driven by greed.

Best example: Call of Duty.

It's called "Modern Warfare" or "Black Ops" and it sounds serious. But then multiplayer is hysterical as shit and has nothing to do with war scenarios any longer.

I hope Delta Force is not doing this shit ...

UK Universities are likely to extend access to Elsevier collection for another year, despite huge deficits of many Universities (including Cambridge).

See what MIT did:

2019 - MIT cancelled big deal and instead subscribed to 675 journals (of
about 2.5K available?)

2020 - they cancelled all Elsevier subscriptions - relying instead on
back-access and interlibrary loans.

Estimated savings: 80% of original spend - saving 2 million USD/year now...

For me that would have to be a Japanese buffet! (no offense to those who especially love Chinese food!)
in reply to Muse

Yes, they're not the same and depends where you go, of course as there are big regional differences.
in reply to Muse

@Bob Lai There are Chinese dishes I LOVE! Sadly, my diet is restricted due to health issues and Japanese cuisine is one where I can eat ALMOST ALL THE MENU! It feels like a miracle sometimes.

Hi folks, we're excited to announce sub.club, payments for the Fediverse. We're the team that built the Mammoth app. Super simple Premium Feeds now available in all Mastodon clients, but especially sexy in Ice Cubes.
in reply to sub.club

Hey, we're excited to announce we've already found a vulnerability in sub.club that, from what we can tell, leaks the content of every premium feed; where should this be reported?

With all due respect to Ahmed, it's not the American people sending bombs to Israel, it is the Biden Administration.

It looks a bit ( more than a bit really ) large for one person.

There is one thing that’s a bit unclear to me: is a KDE OS an agreed upon KDE initiative, or a Nate Graham thing? When i read Nate’s post I was under the impression it was just something he personally wanted for the future.

Nextcloud's federation features will get supercharged in the new Hub 9 - stay tuned September 14th to learn what's coming! 🚀

Any guesses‽

in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

I never got "Nextcloud Talk" to work with federation across my instances. The invitation notifications simply never appear to the invitees.

Hopefully the next version will have sufficient documentation for troubleshooting, or, better yet, simply work and not need troubleshooting!

@katanova My understanding is the NFL owners are terrified of anything that doesn't smell of profit maximization, because it risks lowering the value of their assets.

The Defector article I linked to is great on the legacy of and resistance to public ownership in US sports.

In May this year, Peter Hendy pressured my now-former employer Systra to sack me by threatening them.

Why did he do this? Because I'd highlighted safety and accessibility issues at Euston station. He is unfit for office and should resign.
