Study: Cats in little crocheted hats shed light on feline chronic pain
Our feline overlords aren't particularly known for obeying commands from mere humans, which can make it difficult to study their behaviors in controlled laboratory settings. So a certain degree of ingenuity is required to get usable results—like crocheting adorable little hats for kitties taking part in electroencephalogram (EEG) experiments. That's what researchers at the University of Montreal in Quebec, Canada, did to learn more about assessing chronic pain in cats—and they succeeded. According to their recent paper published in the Journal of Neuroscience Methods, it's the first time scientists have recorded the electrical activity in the brains of conscious cats.

....So Valve just updated the Steam Subscriber Agreement and
they removed the binding arbitration clause and the class action waiver???????
They straight up inverted it—the previous wording about exclusive jurisdiction for court proceedings was amended (diff) to remove the reference to the (now-deleted) binding arbitration section, and to make the statement apply retroactively (I highlighted the new text in bold):
You and Valve agree that all disputes and claims between you and Valve (including any dispute or claim that arose before the existence of this or any prior agreement) shall be commenced and maintained exclusively in any state or federal court located in King County, Washington, having subject matter jurisdiction.
IANAL, idk if the new text actually adds something that wasn't already in the agreement, etc.

Is corru.observer a widely known browser game? I played it last Thanksgiving week while I was meeting my grandfather for only the second time in my long-ass life and my grandmother for the first time in ~25 years. It was a weird trip that was perfect for late nights of playing a trippy game.
I think about it just about weekly, despite not having played it since. With #cohost dying, I'm sad I won't get my occasional dose of news and fanart there. Will I resurrect a tumblr account for following fanart? Quite possibly. 😣
Anyway, if you can handle the intensity of the visuals, it's a great game: corru.observer/
(Maybe it is well known. RPS did a piece on it: rockpapershotgun.com/this-amaz…)

@WatchingfromHollyTrees 😁 I'm impressed they played it, because it's much harder to get folks to notice browser games! It's a meaty game, though, and so creative and well-crafted.
...Well, now I know what I'm doing with my next free evening (catching up from where I left off). 😋

There are many valid reasons to be skeptical of geoengineering & still a lot of opportunities to address #ClimateChange that don’t involve the uncertainty of tinkering with the planet.
Lumping geoengineering skepticism with conspiracy theorists in a headline is terrible framing.

Sorry if I'm derailing a bit, but I often wrestle with the question of how much controversy over this topic is owed to Kim Stanley Robinson, given his influential #CliFi novels? I liked this BBC Futures article with KSR from last year: bbc.co.uk/future/article/20231…
To avert climate disaster, what if one rogue nation dimmed the Sun?
In an influential cli-fi novel, a desperate government ignores international consensus and pumps aerosols into the atmosphere to cool the world. Could it happen for real?India Bourke (BBC)
