Spending the rest of my afternoon captioning the next month worth of IG posts because I am Zuck's bitch.

I feel dirty still having a presence on IG and FB. I wish my clients weren't there.

in reply to Photo Ewen 📷

When I needed a professional photographer, I went on Google Maps to find one near the area where I live, and then went on their website to evaluate. I don't use Instagram so I find it a bit difficult to imagine how you can use it for that purpose, but I might be an outlier.

Widely covered MIT paper saying AI boosts worker productivity is, in fact, complete bullshit it turns out.

I installed Fedora on a Raspberry Pi—see how it measures up to the official OS!

in reply to It's FOSS

Would you recommend using other SBC over Raspberry Pi for a cost effective server? Pi is good but it feels costly
in reply to It's FOSS

that’s an article I’ve been waiting for quite a while 🙌🏻

P.S.: not much has changed since I tried that myself. Still no support for Pi 5, still boots for ages, still looks great though (especially with #KDE 😈)

I'm enjoying the combination of fediverse lag, celebration and exhortation as the EU crosses the line in a petition to ban conversion therapy. About 40% WE ARE SO CLOSE KEEP GOING, 40% WE DID IT, LET'S KEEP GOING and 20% SOME SIGNATURES ARE ALWAYS DISCOUNTED KEEP GOING, the whole thng is beautiful and amazing and inspiring and if you're in Europe just go put your name down.

As Microsoft infrastructure suffers from another outage affecting the users of Teams among others, it is high time we moved to collaboration platforms that give us actual control of our IT.

I supported this effort but not being at all sure it had a chance. Really awesome to see this win! Tough challenges remain given REI’s leadership but this shows to all that workers and members still have power

European Parliament LIBE committee votes on the #Europol report next week.

MEPs 👏 must 👏 vote 👏 against!

🐎 It is a Trojan horse for surveillance disguised as „anti-smuggling“
💰 It would expand the budget for a problematic agency

The EU must take responsibility for forcing migrants into life-threatening situations, change its hostile border & migration policies, and reject the expansion of Europol’s digital surveillance powers.

The funniest songs of the first semi finals are....

Estonia with Espresso Macchiato

Sweden (or is that Finland?) with Bara Bada Bastu

The lads from Iceland are a real delight with RÓA. Doesn't this sound like something from Lazy Town?

in reply to Muse

I’m not particularly a fan, but since you enjoy Eurovision, you might like Cat Valente’s book Space Opera (which is a riff on the contest).
in reply to Muse

Yes, I enjoyed that; there's now a sequel Space Oddity which I don't have yet.

Portugal's smooth rock song "Deslocado" is soooooooo sweet!

New #PsychedelicPornCrumpets album, Carpe Diem, Moonman, has come out.

youtube.com/watch?v=ah02MsJsoF…

in reply to Eugen Rochko

how do you think it stacks up vs the rest of their discography (if you've listened to it yet)?

PPC are an immense live band, like really, really good, but for some reason I can't quite place I'm a bit more up and down on their studio stuff.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

saw them live last year in Melbourne. Great live band. Haven't listened to Carpe Diem, Moonman, but from the singles they put out in the last few months I already know it's another banger album. Another reincarnation is a bop.

Incredible (but predictable) : #Microsoft has blocked the International Criminal Court's access (#ICC) to its services on the orders of the #Trump mafia.

Read that carefully : an international organisation that has no presence in the United States and no US legal rights has had its work tools blocked simply because it disagrees with the Trump administration. 🚩

Get the hell out of it right now.

If any Mastodon instances are having trouble with their costs growing out of control, ping me and see if I can help lower your bill.

Apparently a recently closed instance was paying $300/month for hosting which is insane to read considering how small of an instance it was. When we had 40k monthly users I was paying about $120/month so an instance with less than 400 total users (not MAU) should be super cheap to run even with a few TB of storage and bandwidth.

It hurts my heart to read instances closing down over costs and finding out they’re paying more than instances 10x their size. 😢

This article made me angry for days when I was copyediting it. But I couldn’t talk about it because it hadn’t been published yet. Now I can. And it’s open-access so you can all read it.

Global health institutions allowed COVID-19 vaccinations to be locked up by patents. Moderna showed they could transfer their manufacturing methodologies to factories in places like South Africa. But those factories were forced to send doses to Europe and North America, while most Africans did not get COVID vaccinations.

There is a different model of medication manufacturing and distribution that is used with AUDS retrovirals for equitable distribution. It could have been used for COVID vaccines. But it wasn’t.And the same thing is now happening with Mpox.
