For all those who wanted to see the conversation about anticolonial tech at #transmediale which was cancelled due to political pressure on cultural institutions preventing raising issues on the war on Gaza: vado.li/anticolonialtech

The situation is still somehow unclear in detail, and the most disturbing thing for me is how people and organisations are worn down through the continuous scandalization by the press, and how the massive pressure of the Strike Germany initiative really is not helping.

Update: the Berlin Senate apparently trashed the law in question (which is technically not even a law) before it was even approved.

Leather remains a fashion staple, but its environmental and ethical impact has led to the rise of sustainable alternatives. Cactus leather, pioneered by Desserto, offers a plant-based, cruelty-free option. Let's delve into what cactus leather is, how it's made, its sustainability, and where to find fashion items made from this innovative material.

What is Cactus Leather?

This brings back memories of running a BBS network, and waking up at 2am regularly to hear the modem transferring messages to all the other BBSs! EEK!

We are melting! Good thing I have icy poles/popsicles in the freezer!

???

If you start spraying the water at dawn, the heat of evaporation will be subtracted from the surface for the entire day, even as the outside temperature rises. This would have a very significant effect.

But yes, we do not know what it is.

in reply to Muse

Ah! Yes. So you'd need an always on system once temps reached x degrees on the exterior. Someone needs to build a submerged city in the ocean shallows protected by seawalls.

The Kids Online Safety Act isn’t designed to help kids. Congress is using kids to hold Big Tech accountable. Kids will get hurt in the process.

why did they make nuts & bolts a banjo kazooie game if they knew everyone would hate them for doing it
in reply to lizard appreciator

@bonzoesc fans didn't like it because it was a banjo-kazooie game that played nothing like the previous ones

if it had have been a new IP, it would absolutely have reviewed better

this was one of the funniest moments in any game i've played in years
in reply to Lynnesbian

not including comedy that comes from gameplay of course. few things are funnier than sneaking around and casting grease on a group of 5+ people standing around a fire in baldur's gate 3
in reply to Lynnesbian

now that we have ridiculously high texture quality in video games, we finally get to read background details like posters that would previously have been unreadable blobs of compression artifacts

that doesn't seem to have stopped the RE3 remake art team from assuming nobody would read their posters, though

in reply to Lynnesbian

That poster almost feels like a weird-ass Doom WAD splashscreen, the kind that will descend either in pure eye&ear-bleeding memery or end up so meta-discussion it instantly earns a Cacowad before they're awarded.

Lynnesbian reshared this.

@0xdd that is absolutely a big part of it yes, along with skeuomorphic icons

currently using windows against my better judgement and encountered an interesting bug: explorer.exe crashed while drag-and-dropping a file, and i had to kill it from task manager. now there's a floating "you can't drop this file here" icon over the top of everything, including full screen programs.

When a government attempts to discredit The Hague, it's a sign something has gone terribly wrong in that country. My latest:

in reply to Jen Sorensen

Similarly, when a government kills a record number of journalists ( cpj.org/2023/12/israel-gaza-wa… ), it's a sign that they really, really don't want people to know what they're actually up to.

Thrilled to be immersed in the #fosdem community annual event in Brussels. So much to learn and envision about the changing nature of work from leaders of the #fediverse such as @Gargron the CEO of Mastodon! Thanks to @haubles for making the connection.

That was fun! I think the @Mastodon table at #FOSDEM was the busiest I’ve experienced at an event for a long time - so great to hear from people that use the platform every day! The team enjoyed the chance to meet you - thanks for coming by! More #Merchtodon tomorrow… #WhoIsJohnMastodon

Thank you @Mastodon for reviving the dream of a social web that is open, interoperable and which doesn't monetise my eyeballs to within an inch of their lives. #fosdem

Come and grab a mug at #FOSDEM before they’re gone! They’re quite popular! The 3D printed elephant is not for sale but you could pet him! #Merchtodon
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron yes , i use very different passwords & also 2-step auth is enabled for almost all accounts.
Excluding mastodon.

& as you think someone has my password of abc account and used same here. My abc account was actually not logged in by anyone from Russia.

Never mind.
I just want to bring this into attention.

Christopher Priest 1943 – 2024

Time Comes For Us All (Announcement)

“You never understood, why we did this. The audience knows the truth: the world is simple. It’s miserable, solid all the way through. But if you could fool them, even for a second, then you can make them wonder, and then you... then you got to see something really special... you really don’t know?... it was... it was the look on their faces..”. - From his work, The Prestige

in reply to Joseph Teller

The Prestige was also made into a film, but the books is better than the film in many ways. It is a difficult work to present since it has a story within a story....but the film does have a good cast :

Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, and David Bowie as Tesla.

in reply to Joseph Teller

Ah, yes... I remember that movie. It was pretty entertaining. But, of course, the book is better... always are, as far as I'm concerned.

What does @grishka think of the invasion of #Ukraine? Who is to blame for it? How would he solve the conflict? Does he live in Russia? Does he make enough money to live anywhere but in Russia? If yes, why does he not leave to not fund the invasion as a tax payer?

Visit us at #FOSDEM, building H, level 1! You can say hi to our team or tell us what you’d like to see in Mastodon next. Mugs, t-shirts, enamel pins, and even free stickers available! #Merchtodon

@ntnsndr thanks for all your great work! I'm going to be revisiting your book Everything For Everyone ahead of receiving a couple of the other ones that I just ordered. I first read it in 2018 after it was released and it's played a huge role in inspiring my work towards building and promoting platform co-ops. Kindness and solidarity, Nathan!
