The Republican Party in the US is no longer conservative or even merely far right, they are actively fash.
Democrats are all over the place. Some have moved into the right wing obstructionist position left vacant by the GOP, while others seem to actually be centrist or left. They won't unite on a platform and don't have a big enough majority to cope with internal dissent. Plus midterms have low turnout and tend to swing rightward.

It took an awful lot of yak shaving, but finally Kasts is able to sync podcast subscriptions and episode play positions with both gpodder.net as well as the Nextcloud-gpodder app (which can be self-hosted, see github.com/thrillfall/nextclou…).
It's just been merged into the master branch, but should also be released soon as part of plasma mobile gear 21.11.
