My studio's biweekly #IndieGame stream is kicking off. @gregoryaveryweir is streaming Niklas Hallin's Yono and the Celestial Elephants over at twitch.tv/gregoryaveryweir/ for the next 2-3 hours. It looks so, so cute. We'll be chatting about game design as they play. #FutureProofGames

Venus's surface is shrouded in mystery thanks to its ultra-thick atmosphere, but when the Pioneer Venus Orbiter reached orbit 44 years ago on Dec. 4, 1978, it sent back detailed data about the planet…for another 14 years!

xor linked lists have got to be one of the weirdest datatypes ever.

1. very simple, 2 struct fields
2. simple to implement in low level languages, hard or impossible in high level languages
3. reversing one takes the same amount of time no matter how many elements it has
4. takes up less space than a doubly linked list by literally storing two pointers on top of each other
5. despite doing things that are usually impossible, there is little reason to use it for anything

I had not seen this specific spacesuit before. More streamlined than the later Apollo era suits.

Bring lots of ziploc bags. You might want to double bag the pointy ones. 😐

Do us all a favor and please do not hire Musk to bring back Mars sample returns.

Diamond Creek is a tributary of the Yarra River. During our recent rains we had warning after warning about various areas being flooded along the Yarra River. We weren't flooded in our village of Hurstbridge, but we did need to know which routes into the city or various suburbs could be safely traversed by car. Diamond Creek did rise considerably. However, it flows through a deep gully and therefore kept the water from entering the village.

Yesterday, I decided to walk home from the deli via Diamond Creek. The damage was amazing. Sadly, it's hard to capture in a photograph. The small amount of muddy water you see is about how deep the creek is normally. So, all the brown bits are where vegetation was washed away. Underneath the fallen eucalyptus tree you can see a shipping pallet that had been carried off by the flood and left at our doorstep (so to speak). It is one of the longer ones. That might give you a sense of scale. I heard that blue tongue lizards and a few other animals had to be rescued from stumps that were surrounded by water.

That's weirdly based for D. Suess. I though he was like super conservative for the time. (Not sure of where I took this from)

How can they explain the erasure of Latin American cinema from the new Sight and Sound‘s greatest films of the all-time poll? How come this is defined as an inclusive canon? #LatinAmericanFilm #LatinAnericanCinema #EurocentricCanon

How will the lack of nature, specifically trees and their pheromones impact people over long term absence from them?

how’s that UAP investigation going? Is Bill Nelson shitting a chicken over it yet? Because that would be telling.

I'm quickly watering my vegetables this morning. We are about to have a hot day.
A cockatoo in the tree over that part of the garden started yelling at me: AH! AAH!
So, I yelled back at the same volume: AH! AAH!
We went back and forth this way a couple times, before the cockie flew off.

I think this was our exchange in English.
Cockie: Go away! Go away!
Me: (in a bad accent) No, you go away! Go away!

Perchance the birds think humans are well fed enough.

Reminder: Neptune Frost is eligible for the #HugoAward next year.

It's an excellent Afrofuturist musical about labour rights, about systems of oppression, & about gender.

And it has an epic soundtrack.

If you care about SFF cinema as a distinct artform, and you vote on the Hugos, please give Neptune Frost a chance.
