The article on Ubisoft Connect breaking on Linux / Steam Deck was updated with a workaround: gamingonlinux.com/2023/02/ubisโ€ฆ

saw your article (and posts in Reddit) and I have to ask if you have any inputs/ideas on what other problems may arise at using the experimental proton? Thanks.
in reply to VianPlays ๐ŸŽฎ

@VianPlaysPH it has far less testing and can just break in other ways but experimental is mostly okay, it's bleeding-edge beta that can be more problematic as it's all the constant updates before being actually released
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

but experimental is all I need to make The Division 2 work on Deck again? Did I understand that correctly? Thank you.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Valve needs to allow users to filter out games with Launchers. I don't want to buy games that have a Launcher.

From 2023, W3C is its own legal entity (โ€œW3C Incโ€).
What's new, you ask? Well, it's a big change, as until this year, W3C wasn't a thing in itself. It existed in a โ€œhosted modelโ€, meaning (most recently) four universities โ€œhostedโ€ W3C, with staff being employed by/through those universities. Three of those universities (all except MIT) are still around, now as โ€partnerโ€.

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@ntnsndr not much, things will probably mostly continue like they have, but with improvements in some areas including governance

I might be the contrariant here, but I feel his point (aside from the dig at you ig) is pretty valid. To me it doesn't necessarily read as excusing the situation, but rather giving a (possible) explanation for it. And I think he has a point. I think most AAA don't really QA test for Linux, though I think that that is starting to shift.

I've kept a safe distance from Reddit for so many years now, and having recently relented and created an account (some software seems to use it as a support channel) I don't regret that decision. The headline makes you want to read more, so what did they do to break things? Compared to newspaper headlines I've read it is spot on.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

I wonder how many of those are real upvotes. I once had the suspicion that there is a lot of voter bots, so I created my own subreddit. Made two posts, ten fake accounts. One post I just gave up ores, the other just downvotes. The next day the post with up votes suddenly reached 100+ up votes and the one with downvotes was around 50 downvotes.

No comments, no other posts on the subreddit.

You're posssibly aware by now, but the bleeding edge version of proton experimental has fixes in place for the Ubisoft launcher. Just spent an hour reacquainting myself with Washington DC.

Launchers still need to be put against the wall though.

Okay, so after watching #TheLastOfUS on #HBO, I wondered if #SciFi#zombies (basically a virus, bacteria, etcetera, cause craziness & not a living dead scenario) could occur in humans.

According to #science, the answer is yes. At the 10:15 mark of this video mentions a parasitic protozoan that replaces mammels fear of #cats with a love for cats (or at least their scent.

youtu.be/jM5jf-8ekVA
I guess this explains why #Caterday is so popular online (regardless of the social platform used).

Although it usually infects mice ๐Ÿ, this parasite can affect humans as well, as it wants us to be eaten by cats (even big cats like lions). From #ScienceFiction to science fact. Crazy if you ask me!

have you come across the fungus cordyceps? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiocโ€ฆ

The microbiologist Merlin Sheldrake has a brilliant chapter about this in his book "Entangled Life", where he expands the zombie comparison and explores the idea that we all may already be 'infected' with fungi that control certain behaviours.

STRIKE! During the great London strike of 1768, workers on the waterfront, textile workers, coal heavers, craftsmen, sailors, walked out to protest wage cuts, poor working conditions, and rigid discipline. They acted within a circle of slave rebellions, strikes, and riots taking place throughout the Atlantic world. The sailors "struck" the sails of their ships, bringing commerce to a standstill. When workers conduct collective job actions to defend their interests we still use the word STRIKE.
