If you are using elixir-ls as your language server for your #elixir stuff, you should really try out github.com/lexical-lsp/lexical. I have been using it for a week now and itโ€™s amazing. Way better completion, quicker and less weird behavior that leads to restarting the language server ๐Ÿฅฐ

What editor are you using? I'm having trouble getting this going with Emacs (I have been using elixir-ls)
in reply to nebunez

ohh, it was a version thing. I was on Elixir 1.15.0, and lexical requires >=1.15.3.

Sometimes you just have to know it's there and that's enough... Right? RIGHT?!

Mustang Caves (Sky Caves); a group of about 10,000 man made caves of Nepal, are still an archaeological mystery.

These complex group of interconnected caves are perched high up on cliffs cleaved by Kali Gandaki River. Recent excavations have found human remains dating back to 3000 years in some caves. Other caves have frescos and religious objects from around 12th Century CE.

Fun reminder that Lucille Ball is the only reason that Star Trek exists.

As the head of Desilu Productions, she green-lighted a pilot; then when it was deemed "too cerebral" by the networks, funded a financially-risky SECOND pilot that got the series picked up by NBC.

In London, England you will find Dante Gabriel Rossetti's home in Cheyne Walk on the bank of the Thames. It is marked by a Blue Plaque.

Whilst living there he kept a menagerie of animals, including salamanders, deer, wombats, kangaroos, bulls, etc. You name it, he kept it.

Unfortunately the peacocks made a frightful din, annoying the neighbours to the point that Dante was banned from keeping them. They also remain banned in every local lease to this day! ๐Ÿฆš๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿšซ

Can y'all imagine what the #Fediverse would be like if the projects had the kind of funding to enable this scale of development?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron right? Like, I'm trying to make my own development and research work sustainable at the moment โ€” I've now a few funding opportunities that are for specific things, but funding is still moving waaay too slow.

Having more than just 2 engineers on the main Mastodon codebase sounds like it'd be amazing.

Although I do think they deserve some support after going through some rough times... that looks really just like PayDay 2. Which, honestly, I wouldn't have an issue with if they just kept using the old engine and extended the game (and incrementally upgrade, like the folx of SCS did with ETS2).

You can see how much money they burnt for nothing.

Surprising Movies That Got Thumbs Down From Siskel, Ebert, or Both. The Silence of the Lambs, Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, Die Hard (Ebert ๐Ÿ‘Ž?!), and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. letterboxd.com/superpulse/listโ€ฆ
in reply to kottke.org

the original theatrical release of Blade Runner was not that great.
in reply to kottke.org

I remember Siskel and Ebert featuring scenes from Last Crusade in an episode where they complained about pan-and-scan conversion of movies for home video. Showing only the part of the screen that would fit into TV format would cut off either Ford or Connery in the twofer shots, and they said that reduced the quality of being able to see the two actors play off each other.

The EPA has once again fined Suncorโ€™s Commerce City refinery over air pollution issues, this time demanding $161,000 for producing gasoline with too many pollutants.

The agency is also ordering Suncor to buy $600,000 in clean lawn equipment for nine metro-Denver counties with excess ozone.

Obviously lacks the niche communities of reddit but I'm sure that'll change with time and better integration into the fediverse

People used to drop into movie theaters whenever they wanted, often mid-film, and then just leave after that part of the movie came around again. Then in 1960, Hitchcock famously barred moviegoers from entering theaters after the start of Psycho. kottke.org/23/09/psycho-and-thโ€ฆ
in reply to kottke.org

in the 80s there used to be a theatre in Vancouver that still did this -- it would show triple bills of Movie A, then B, then C, then A, then B again and you could go in any time and leave any time.
in reply to kottke.org

Interesting as a marker of how society viewed films - a momentary diversion (like a sideshow) vs. an event (๐ŸŽตโ€œLetโ€™s go to the movies.โ€๐ŸŽต). Movie tickets were previously priced to temporarily fill the seat (any seat, any film) and the theatre could show them _anything_. And it creates and enforces a mental model of money flowing from viewer to the studios.

(Also: having Pinkertons onsite to enforce compliance with the new modelโ€ฆsomething, something, capitalism, compliance, violence)
