Did you know Monopoly was invented by a woman named Elizabeth Magie in 1903?

Originally ‘The Landlord’s Game,’ it was designed as a protest against the big monopolists like Carnegie & Rockefeller.

But it was Charles Darrow, an unemployed salesman, who eventually sold it to Parker Brothers after playing a version.

Parker Brothers credited Monopoly with saving their company. Magie died in 1948 without recognition. Darrow became very wealthy & his legend lives on. #history

monopoly is an evil game and in some weird way this is her penance for bringing it to the world.

PSA for Android users: Uninstall Simple Mobile Tools apps!

The developer of Simple Mobile Tools, an Android app suite which has been historically well respected in the FOSS space, has sold their apps to a company called ZipoApps, a company that buys apps from independent developers to add advertisements and trackers to them. I highly suggest uninstalling any of the Simple Mobile Tools apps you have on your device and looking for alternatives.

for those wanting to keep using the apps, one of the original devs has forked them and is working on distributing new versions that won't be subject to this bullshit!

Hey, @Cass M 👋🏽🍁! Look what came in the mail today!
The envelope had the word SCAN handwritten on it. So, our customs officials had set it aside for a look. Maybe they were worried that you were smuggling a Kinder Egg to me. Those used to be illegal to bring into this country, because they were considered a choking hazard!

Well, you can make me a hat any time. I love the one on the gnome!

tbh nowadays i would like to always see a mark/sign, added to the watermark of the artist but visible. A sign to state if it's a real photo (may be enhanced or composed of several photographs like this) or just AI. One then could still appreciate photographers and their art and talent - without any doubt.
Alt Text would help in such case not only the visually impaired.😉
That'd be great.

@Muse The 'Survey of British Literature' textbook was specifically for a class on British Literature.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in Australia – worth not(ify)ing

Once upon a time, we grew viruses from sick patients' samples. This took an age, failed often, had low throughput and was not a good diagnostic tool. Then we developed PCR and could find RSV cases more quickly, among more people, more sensitively and very accurately. We've been doing that in Australia since the 1990s. Reporting of these detections only became…
