CW: Racism, fake picture of a person StyleGAN (AI), eye contact

Some people on here are really going around pretending to be Black people with avatars generated with thispersondoesnotexist.com to question lived experiences of racism from Black people & avoid having their white supremacy thrown back at them.

This is vile & not subtle and should be pointed out every single time it is noticed.

So much work went into this segment for a tv show: large space biplane, sophisticated costumes, and fairly precise choreography. We don't see dance routines like this on television, or even on movies, much these days.

Note that although the song was released in 1977, this video is a performance from 1984.

~1300 W/m2 with that square oriented perfectly in the direction of the sun, and with the thinest possible amount of atmosphere above.

I.e. high-noon at the equator on a perfectly clear dry day.

So, 100W/m2 at 50º flat to a level surface on the ground/water, and maybe 130W/m2 average on a tilted surface facing the sun.

The Shockley–Queisser limit, says that at most 31% of the energy in sunlight can be converted to electricity. We probably will never achieve better than about 25-27% on production panels with ideal orientation at high noon. With moving mirrors to concentrate light on a collector we can still never achieve more than 41% efficiency.

I.e. We will NEVER have the means to harvest enough energy from solar to get to net-zero with solar alone. It's just Not. Physically. Possible.

@Gargron do you have any insight into why?

@Ed Wiebe What's the contradiction? The software is decentralized but that doesn't mean nobody can speak for it. I'm assuming @joinmastodon@birb has @Eugen Rochko 's blessing.

Immortals Fenyx Rising now on Steam but quite messy on Steam Deck gamingonlinux.com/2022/12/immo… #SteamDeck #Gaming
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

This might sound like a weird opinion, but now that #Valve and the wider games industry is putting so much effort into #Proton and #Linux support, it's actually a good thing to have some games that don't run very smoothly at launch.

While it's annoying for #LinuxGamers, it's going to help developers of Proton and of big game engines to clean up messy edge cases and improve performance and compatibility for everyone.

I, for one, don’t mind the shorter pieces. The omnibus mega-posts are cool, and you do a great job of using them to reflect and contextual use, but the shorter ones are more digestible. I wouldn’t mind if you just dribbled out the highlights whenever you got around to them.

Two super-Earth exoplanets orbiting a red dwarf star may be "water worlds." They are 218 light-years away in the constellation Lyra, and are unlike any planet found in our solar system. go.nasa.gov/3FToWEu
#NASAExoplanets

Astronomers have long theorized that water worlds exist and @NASAHubble and Spitzer may have provided the best evidence yet. Kepler-138 d is bigger abound than Earth, but much less dense. Water, lots and lots of water, could explain why.

My lab has started building their own apps for data collection! Below is a link my informal course on how to get started. Here is an example of an app that we use to phenotype oysters. With the app we can also take a picture of the sample - the photo is automatically uploaded to the cloud and a link to the photo is automatically added to our database.

You too can do this! All you need is basic spreadsheet knowledge.
