I feel like randomly promoting a really good free software project. That project is none other than SourceHut: sourcehut.org/ - and the main instance of it is here: sr.ht/

It's a very unique git forge in that it's predicated around use of a mailing list, but it has everything else you'd possibly want built right in, like CI, tickets, really good markdown parsing, and generally it's just very efficient.

Very lightweight forge, and it works without JavaScript turned on.

Well, I thought I would do a painting of a Macleay's Butterfly (Australian bug). I'm as fascinated by their fuzzy bodies as their wings. Now I'm feeling like anything I do with this is going to be kitsch because--well, it's a butterfly. I'm clearly still to do the insect part which might redeem the painting. The fuzzy bit is going to be fiddly. Any thoughts @Kenny Chaffin or @clarice oncemore?

@clarice oncemore Thank you for getting back to me! I did indeed fuzzy the body. I also have become the queen of watching YouTube videos on how to do fuzz. Most of them were for bigger paintings than this one.

I have never even heard of a stencil/stiple brush before. I shall have to look into them! I just purchased a fan brush on a whim. Now I want to figure out how to use it. It looks like it would be good for creating soft cross-hatching.

Yesterday I did splatter painting for the first time in order to create particulate matter for an underwater scene. Wow! That was so much fun! I'm going to have to find excuses to do that on a regular basis. I now also need to buy a new wooden kitchen spoon. But, I'm willing to make the sacrifice. My last revelation was using a sponge. Next thing you know I will be raiding the kitchen for broccoli and spaghetti to dip into paint and apply to a canvas.

That's very much like I was thinking. About six months ago I thought to myself, I should really make a donation to @thunderbird because I've been using their software since it pretty much came out, done more installs than I can remember and because I'm dying (cancer) it was about time I gave a little back. Thing is though, I kept forgetting but it wasn't until I did a recent install and the 'pop up' for want of a better description appeared that I actually did.

I ported abuse to SDL2 some time ago. You can find it at github.com/jjsimpso/abuse-sdl2 but I don't currently have prepackaged binaries for it. My version also adds gamepad support and I fixed choppy audio that I experienced on my system.

I haven't played the game extensively, so I'd be curious how well my version performs compared to the others. There is also at least one other SDL2 port out there besides mine.

Fine weather for ducks - Grasmere, English Lake District
A lone duck swims out towards the centre of a lake leaving ripples in it's wake. The weather is raining with mist hanging over trees on the far side of the lake. Twelve years ago a mass movement shaped by the ideas and practices of anarchism erupted out of New York City's Zuccotti Park. Taking inspiration from the Arab Spring, the Green Wave of Iran, and the Indignados Movement of Spain, participants in Occupy Wall Street boldly experimented with participatory democracy and mutual aid in public spaces.

Next week we're excited to host Marisa Holmes, one of the originators of Occupy Wall Street, for a conversation about her new book on the movement, "Organizing Occupy Wall Street: This is Just Practice."
