I’ve been using Arch for quite some time, mainly due to how customizable it is and because of the AUR. But recently, @nixos_org is growing on me more and more, and I even use #nix more and more outside #nixos too. My next desktop will run exclusively on NixOS, one of my laptops already does!
My favorites are 1) openSUSE Tumbleweed because of zypper, the package repositories, and the stable rolling release, 2) Void Linux because of the minimalism, runit and xbps, and 3) Gentoo because of the power of Portage and USE flags
I am a fedora user. I made the decision based on how many redhat emloyees were in the contributors credits for the software I using. I even volunteered with them for a while as an ambassador. It was a very cool experience.
From a user, no a sysadmin, just need something to work and study. Begun with Mandrake and SuSe in 2000, years later redhat, ubuntu and two or three more. Around 2005 debian, since then only that. Reasons: stable, stable, stable...no problems, not even once.
tried plenty over the years, but at present really liking RebornOS for the arch + gui base and rolling release (manjaro is good but the delay in updates is annoying) also KDE is my desktop of choice so it ticks all the boxes.
I used to be a massive fan of ZorinOs but their update schedule is a little to slow imo. I've been daily driving fedora ever since I switched from desktop to laptop about a year ago and couldn't be happier. My experience has been rock solid but still modern. Enough stuff to make my life easy but barely any bloat I dont need.
@archlinux because I like it more to fix a little thing once in a while for my desktop or laptop rather then doing heavy fixes after an update of Ubuntu or Debian (that happened too often to me). And I like that it provides vanilla software.
EndeavourOS, because i like arch base without annoying installation process. This seems smoothest base in my laptop. Also i like to have the lastest packages versions.
openSUSE. I chose it because I wanted to challenge myself with a distro that is a little off the beaten path. I stay with it because it is the most stable distro I've ever used.
Ended up using Manjaro for my desktop since both others I tried (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and Mint) were making some problems in my setup. But I continue to use Mint for VirtualBox VMs because I couldn't get clipboard sharing to work in a Manjaro VM - neither with Manjaro or Windows as a host. And no, nothing I found on the Web did help with that.
Arch Linux, because - It comes simple and clean - Every package can be found on AUR - It has Arch Wiki, the bible of GNU/Linux - Allows you to say "i use arch btw" lol
Fedora Silverblue, because it is immutable, because I like Gnome and Flatpaks and because it works right out of the box. It even worked like a charm on an old Chromebook I used to own (on which several other distros failed).
My favorite distro for the past 3+ years is Garuda. I use the KDE and Qtile editions. Theys made a lot of useful suite of tools and helped with migration to KDE 6 (Wayland part of it does not work though). I would move to a wayland based dynamic tiling WM, but Hyprland dows not want to work for one of my apps and currently there are no other good choices, plus what I am reading about the lead developer and their community isn't good.
i picked ubuntu 9.04 for a project because it was there.
i still use ubuntu, now as a daily driver for work and play. my wife uses ubuntu on her PC. my kids use it.
every now and then i dabble with debian, and i keep virt-manager installed to try things out, like kde neon for kde plasma 6 before it was fully baked, and nixos, which intrigues/confuses me.
Spiral Linux because it's Debian Stable made easy with all available DEs and pre configured Testing, Unstable and Non-free out-of-the-box. The only con is the questionable theming choice but that's easy fixable.
I'll always love #Ubuntu because it's so easy to install and setup on any laptop. I can quickly get up and going, and just run a shell script to setup my dev env. Recently been using #elementaryos8 so that the younger ones in my family can play around with Linux safely. I've used #RedHat and #centos professionally. I tried #fedora but it was a pain to find and install drivers.
some 20 years ago I started to know linux with Slackware. Because wanted to learn it hard way. And becuse of name and nice logo. Lived hoppping from nix to win all the time. Some 2 years ago dropped win for good. But stayed on Debian on desktop. But now my everyday os is macos. But some day I will have my Slackware laptop again.
