I've been largely absent from social media lately, as it would be an understatement to say I've got lot on at the moment... with a draft book manuscript due in two weeks (Eeeeek!), and a lot of research work to complete before a brand new baby Ashwood arrives in five weeks (even more Eeeeeek)!!

Time is a scarce commodity right now, send positive vibes please!

These are the beautiful spore-producing structures of plasmodial slime molds. Which is your favourite colour?

Originally considered Fungi, these Myxomycetes are now classed as Amoebozoans - single celled organisms with thousands of nuclei... not animals or fungi but something else entirely!

*Slime mould appreciation post*

Slime moulds usually live as single celled organisms, but will occasionally perform an astonishing feat of cooperation - gathering together as a collective ‘organism’ to form structures such as fruiting bodies. They may resemble fungi, but are really a unique group of amoebozoa.
