Just a quick intro post to say hello!
I'm a mid-40s woman in tech and security engineer. I'm neurodivergent, genderfluid, and my pronouns are she/they.
I tend to use Mastodon for the things I love and enjoy, and I'll include a few of them in the hashtags.
Sharing a pic of me wearing my comfy Dustrial hoodie. In case I look familiar, I have migrated from elsewhere on the Fediverse!

Check out those whiskers! This little harbour seal was picked up by my team in October. Found on a beach with a life threatening condition (mouth rot), he was uplifted and taken to a sanctuary for rehabilitation.
He has a special place in my heart as this was my first rescue. 10/10 perfect gentleman, didn't fight/bite me!
He was recently released into the wild, and is out there somewhere living his best life π¦

I don't divide a year into four seasons, instead I notice the change through blossoms. The blossoms don't follow a chronological order. They overlap, reverse, even repeat sometimes. Each mountainside has its own climate. The rocks can be burning hot on one side and covered with snow on the other. Here are the blossoms of a climate that's warming up:
1. Crocus time is cool and crispy. The blossoms can poke directly from the snow.
2. Primroses come after crocuses, although sometimes they meet each other on the same slope. Then crocuses dissolve while primroses stay. The air is warmer and it smells of soil and plants.
3. Anemone time means you can be confident it's warm on their field. You might need sunscreen, and even look for shadows to chill in.
4. Hyacinths arrive when you start keeping the solar zenith in mind, and making sure you've got your cap on. The bees are everywhere, and the air is so sweet that you want to eat it with a spoon.

Kicksledding through a quiet forest today. The only sound I heard was from a softly hammering woodpecker.
An image from some of Scotland's most remote mountains. It's no small feat to get out here, but it's worth it every time.
Made last year when me and Benjamin Maze took a group of awesome clients hiking and wild camping here; we were treated to all manner of brilliant conditions from hail to blue skies. (Join us in September 2026 for the second iteration of our Northwest Highlands photography adventure!)

An Opportunity to Address Mining Abuses Globally
When 29-year-old Norbert Amoya went to fetch water from a river in northern Zambia earlier this year, he found large numbers of dead fish and the water had a strange smell. The cause was a major mining disaster.Human Rights Watch
I'm slowly starting to share more images from my multi-year project "This Land Remembers", an odyssey into the last remaining ancient native woodlands of Scotland (like this one from a brilliant Autumn morning in 2025). I also have an upcoming exhibition at Gallery Photiq this April/May featuring 12 prints from the project, including this image.
I am fascinated by these colors. Among the yellow lichen Polycaulonia polycarpa and gray-green lichen Physcia dubia probably, you can see the tiny pink fungus Illosporiopsis christiansenii, which parasitizes the lichen. I photographed all this on a blackthorn tree (Prunus spinosa) while tasting the blue fruits, which were now frozen and therefore sweet.

Samhain [sow-wen]: the ancient Celtic festival that marks the end of summer and the beginning of winter β the moment when Beira the Cailleach, Queen of Winter, regains control over the landscape from the Queen of Summer, Brigid. It also marks the moment when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest and the origins of Halloween. Mountain spirits come to the fore at this time of year.
