Fully funded PhD project to work on current natural selection, evolution and demography in several populations of Albatrosses, with fieldwork in the subantarctic.

A French version of the project is here: https://www.univ-larochelle.fr/wp-content/uploads/TBonnet_CEBC_AAP_AllocDoc_2024-1.pdf, but if you do not read French know that it is flexible anyway. I will post an English ad later.

Email me with any question if you may be interested.

Marine #microorganisms are crucial for #ocean health.

#Bacteria, #archaea, #fungi, #algae and #viruses make up most of the biomass in the seas and form the base of marine food webs.

They support nutrient cycling and drive crucial biogeochemical processes, including key steps in the carbon, nitrogen and silicon cycles.

Ocean modelling must evolve to take their biological complexity into account.

For a new week: I dug into the history of a definition I’ve used my entire career, and discovered… we may not need it?

Don’t ask “When is it coevolution?” — ask “How is it coevolution?”

A significant new study, using massive biodiversity datasets, shows that invasions by non-native plants set the stage for later invasions by non-native insects.

"nonnative plant introductions are a major driver of insect invasions, and that insect invasions lag behind plant invasions. In the near future, new insect invasions are estimated to increase by 35% worldwide based on recent nonnative plant introductions."
