'Hanging On'

A beautiful, large ancient oak tree with some remnants of autumn colour on a cold, frosty winter's morning. I've got many images of this tree, but I hope one day to have a set of nearly identical images through the different seasons.

Wishing everyone peaceful and happy holidays! Thank you so much for following along for what has been an incredible year (I'll reflect more on 2024 in another post). For now, here are 4 new winter images from Scotland's Ancient Caledonian Forest. Enjoy 😀

This snowy scene was captured during a particularly severe winter in Britain in 1894-95 known as ‘The Great Frost’.
The photographer, Paul Martin (1864-1944) pioneered street and night photography, with some shots requiring exposures of anything between 10 to 20 minutes. His nighttime adventures were “amusing experiences” - passers-by were not used to seeing a man with a camera and he was often stopped by the police.
