These are the beautiful spore-producing structures of plasmodial slime molds. Which is your favourite colour?

Originally considered Fungi, these Myxomycetes are now classed as Amoebozoans - single celled organisms with thousands of nuclei... not animals or fungi but something else entirely!

🌳🌱 Did you know woody plants can reshape soil health in #drylands? A study by Martha Mary Farella, David D. Breshears and Rachel Gallery shows that woody plant cover alone can predict nearly 50% of #soil function changes, including nutrient levels and microbial activity. Hi Mastodon #garden lovers or #soil knowers or #fungus experts, I have no idea what I've come home to in part of my newly planted garden, #help? looks like some sort of #seed? I recently added a heavy dose of #compost to this garden and planted lupin seeds underneath this particular area, but this looks odd!

This week, 24 new Winogradsky columns came into being, with help from the KS2 classes at my local school 🦠💚

As they all needed egg yolks, back at home I'm now making meringues! Lots and lots of meringues!!!

I have no idea how the students mud jars will end up, but here's a pic of one of my winter experiments a couple of years ago with soil/water from the same river...

In the background, the #beach opposite #stornoway #harbour where we deployed our new equipment to capture #rope and #net mending #cuttings (#ELFG). The situation is pretty bad with #soil mostly composed of
#plastic fibre once the #seaweed has decomposed. Hopefully we will stop this from occurring in our #environment.
