Are there any #beetle specialists in the #fediverse? Had this in the moth box this morning. At least 4cm long (measured at 4, possibly 4.2cm) App says King Diving Beetle but they're quite rare round here. More likely Great, but I see gold edge rather than yellow and seems too big. Grateful for any assistance

Overhead shot of 4cm beetle. It is oval. It has ridged wings to about halfway down. The bottom half is not ridged. it has gold or dark yellow edging.
Front on shot of 4cm beetle It has two black frog-like eyes on a stippled black head. It has a gold band near its mouth and two pincer like protrusions. It stretches back where its wings become blurred in the picture. It has crab like legs.
Shot of the underside of a 4cm beetle. It has large gold teardrop scales that point inwards until halfway where it them becomes horizontal bands of reddish brown. Its legs point hither and thither as it attempts to right itself.

This species of spider beetle is considered a cosmopolitan pest of natural history collections.

It's a amazing creature, none the less.

This is a close-up of a point-mounted spider beetle (family Ptinidae). The elytra are black and come together to form a large globular shape over the abdomen. The head, legs, pronotum and antennae are covered with dense, golden setae (or hairs), most of which are flattened into scale-like structures.
