For all those that think Wayland is the wrong path to go:

"The technical reason why this issue stayed open this long comes down to X11. [...] The KWin maintainer Martin Flöser had said as much in 2013, effectively ruling it out for the entire KDE 4.x series. The only realistic path was through Wayland"

#Wayland #KDE #Plasma

#kdeplasma #wayland on #endeavouros, coming from #budgiedesktop. Bugs are _really_ minor. Signal crashes sometimes when opening the screencast portal and I got the top left corner of my screen unusable once after a Windows game crashing under Wine. Beside that, everything is flawless. Most of I do in Qt Creator, Floorp, Signal, Alacritty, virtmanager/boxes, FL Studio and Wine/Proton. I was an user of Wayland before but went back to X to use #budgiedesktop.

Frog Protocols announced to try and speed up Wayland protocol development gamingonlinux.com/2024/09/frog…

#Linux #Wayland

FVWM is/was great. I started using more or less when it started and I've used it as recently as 2022 on some custom embedded "carputer" type devices. Totally themeable/strippable/placeable.

Would like to see a #wayland version but... probably won't happen.

Had a stint of using #afterstep for a number of years. On an Intel Pentium dual P90 homebuilt. Ha!

Wine's new #Wayland backend is now enabled in @archlinux as of about a minute ago! 🍷 @felixonmars was kind enough to let me push the update.

Cinnamon 6.0 for Linux Mint 21.3 to have 'experimental' Wayland support gamingonlinux.com/2023/11/cinn…

#Linux #LinuxMint #Wayland #FOSS

I guess people hating #Wayland are the same folks that hate #SystemD or even #PipeWire whilst refusing to #DoBetter themselves:

#Toxic #Neighsayers that refuse to acknowledge that #Xorg, #SystemVinit and #ALSA / #OSS are bad.

Instead they create redundant work that noone cares and that only.pulls resources from improving mainlike #Linux.

Or does anyone use #Devuan in any busoness-critical applicationm?

Looks like @serebit released #Waycheck 1.0.0 today. Naturally, that means it should be *everywhere* for your #Wayland checking needs! 😉

In this week's episode of the #SudoShow, I discuss Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (#VDI) present and future with my co-hosts, especially in the context of the #wayland future. We break it down and shine a light on where things are and where they're going!

Check out the episode and subscribe to the show's YouTube channel or in your podcast app of choice! It's a great #podcast on the #business of #OpenSource!

Whenever I see comments like this about #Wayland I always have to ask, who do you think would be developing this new protocol? Every single #Linux graphics developers agrees that Wayland is where we're going, the problem is nobody agrees on how it should look

Got sway (a #Wayland compositor) running on #OpenBSD. Still very alpha though.
