#Vice Magazine has filed for bankruptcy. This is the end of an era.

If you're between the ages of 30-50, Vice was core to documenting youth culture as you remember it. At least that was the case for me.

Growing up in Canada during the 90s, I remember Vice as a punk rock zine that published things that were completely unprintable everywhere else. It published articles about drugs, sex, fashion, rock n' roll -- everything I was into.

As time went on, Vice became tamer and tamer until it became the antithesis of what it once was. Towards the latter end of its existence, Vice was pretty much a Buzzfeed competitor.

Nevertheless, with the benefit of hindsight, I now see Vice for what it is: crass hipsterdom gone amuck, opportunists to the core.

I will miss Vice as a journal for millennial youth culture. I won't miss the exploitation of all the writers who made it what it was.
