Comets and their tails have come in all shapes and sizes. Some, like Comet Rosa seen in this post, are more familiar.

Comet Rosa (CC0, via Wikimedia Commons) as depicted in "The Comet Book," or "Comets and their General and Particular Meanings, According to Ptolomeé, Albumasar, Haly, Aliquind and other Astrologers." Published in 1587.

This book contains many such examples. Other images from this book can be found at the Public Domain Review: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/the-comet-book
