The little grey chick was hatched by the silky hen from and egg off the Supermarket shelf. Since the box of 6 wasn't labeled for being fertilized no one had great expectations for success. The young Silky hen wasn't having much luck with other eggs and it seemed like a good idea to keep her broody so I used the most interesting eggs at hand.. The supermarket is rumored to sometimes have local eggs labeled as fertilzed but never when I go in.. The 6-box of Nagoya Kochn eggs from an in-prefecture gourmet place seemed like the best I could do with limited time.. Miraculous!!! It motivated me to get a higher-quality incubator to experiment with different eggs like this.. It seems like the more involved you get the more people you find who share the interest and will take extra birds off your hands and raise them... or come over and help with a fun feast...
