I liked that in the peer review, the authors checked for chimeric misassemblies in both the NCVs and the bacterial genomes. This makes the synteny shared with environmentally co-occurring #bacteria more real.
Though the paper doesn't strongly establish directionality of transfers, it's interesting to note an intact major capsid protein is likely in the NCV -> bacteria direction. Neutral hitchhiker? Maybe co-opted for some sort of decoy immune defense?
