Today marks the #WinterSolstice in the Northern Hemisphere, and the longest night of the year there. On the 23rd the Moon is new, meaning it doesn't appear in the night sky to outshine the stars. It's a good time for skywatching if you have clear skies. solarsystem.nasa.gov/skywatchi…

It’s going to be a long night.

In the Northern Hemisphere, that is. Tonight is the #WinterSolstice, which occurs when either of Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/3vbLGJY
