The closest exoplanet to Earth is only 4.2 light-years away. It's an Earth-sized world in the habitable zone of its small star, meaning liquid water *could* exist on the surface. Now, a possible second planet, Proxima Centauri c, is awaiting confirmation! go.nasa.gov/3woVXTu

How many of these habitable zone worlds are unlikely to be tidally locked? (I know it can't be known at this time for sure, but some are more likely than others.)

Even the closest known exoplanet is very far from Earth. If we traveled as fast as @NASAVoyager, 38,000 mph/61,000 kph, it would take us 75,000 years to reach Proxima Centauri b. go.nasa.gov/3woVXTu

No sugar or spice, but everything ice ❄️

In this molecular cloud (a birthplace of stars & planets), Webb scientists found a variety of icy ingredients. These frozen molecules, like carbon dioxide and methane, could go on to become building blocks of life. go.nasa.gov/3Xy07Vd
#JamesWebb

Using Webb’s infrared abilities, researchers studied how starlight from beyond the molecular cloud was absorbed by the icy molecules within. This process left us with “chemical fingerprints,” or absorption lines, that could be compared with lab data to identify the molecules.

beautiful. a useful distance measure would be how long it would take to get there accelerating at 1g for half the distance and decelerating at 1g for the other half. A practical method to maintain gravity on board. Unfortunately I’m far to lazy to try to work it out.
