If we are going to have any sort of colony on mars we are going to need to protect ourselves.
I wonder if there is any Boron Ore on Mars, as I think Boron Nitride has been suggested as a way to shield spacecraft, so perhaps if there is a source of both Boron and Nitrogen on Mars we could make shielding on Mars at some point in the future.
