- I wonder if this post was likely prompted within the NASA public affairs office by yesterday's successful Chinese launch of a crew mission to the Chinese space station? Hmmmmm.

For 30+ years, Dr. Hanwant B. Singh studied atmospheric chemistry at @NASAAmes, revealing the origins of pollutants, how far they travel, and how they impact our health.

In the 1980s, he was a key member of the team that measured ozone-depleting chemicals. #AANHPIHeritageMonth

This map shows trends in the frequency of coastal phytoplankton blooms, which the team reports affected 126 countries and 9% of all ocean area.
#NASAEarth

Phytoplankton blooms are becoming larger and more frequent.

Scientists using @nasa data found that blooms are 60% more frequent and increased 13% in size from 2003-2020.
#NASAEarth

In the future, NASA’s PACE mission will see the ocean in more color than ever before, allowing researchers to tease apart which species of phytoplankton are present in blooms.

Daily hydration reminder 💧

Webb spotted a massive water emission from Saturn's moon Enceladus, spanning over 6000 miles and gushing out at 79 gallons per second. (Webb's data shows Enceladus as a white pixel. Compare its size to the water jet below!) go.nasa.gov/42fQbkK

in reply to NASA

Umm.... 79 gallons per second? That doesn't seem huge for a planet. Is there a decimal point somewhere wrong?

#OTD in 1971, Mariner 9 was launched. Nearly 6 months later, it became the first spacecraft to orbit another planet, beating the Soviets' Mars 2 🛰️

Mariner 9 transmitted 7,329 photos of Mars back to Earth, including this one of Ascraeus Mons volcano. go.nasa.gov/3MJeUrK

Don't forget to water your planets 🪐

Webb provides new insight into how Enceladus' plumes act as a sprinkler system. The moon leaves a “donut” (torus) of water around Saturn as it orbits. About 30% of the water stays in that “donut." The rest is supplied to Saturn & its rings!
