I'm wondering about two things:
— Does the percentage for "Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS 64 bit" include snaps?
— Conversely, for "Freedesktop SDK 23.08", do we know the distribution of host systems that use the flatpak?

Don't prefill config files

makeworld.space/2024/02/no_pre…

(new blog post!)

in reply to makeworld

I disagree that you can't change defaults, that's a design problem with the config options. If there is concern over something changing then the config should provide the option to preselect the internel default.

Following this example you'd allow the config to set search_engine = default

ok, let’s give this robot one more try at getting it to work well and be useful.

tl;dr it was originally deployed at a volkswagen factory and came with a customized, volkswagen-specific control cabinet (on the right, the one with “broken robot” poster) which is absolute hell to get to work right standalone, without an external plc controlling it over interbus. hardware is different enough that it can’t be easily converted, software that works with this hardware is heavily stripped down and lacks critical features.

so I finally managed to track down a stock version of the control cabinet. it’s incomplete, but I can do some part swaps to get it to work and it was cheap.

in reply to erin // Eileen

it’s alive.

it boots.

it boots windows 95.

photo of the pm6-600 low voltage power supply section, closeup of status indicator leds. they're all green. photo of the pendant screen, next stage of post.
photo of the pendant screen showing bios post screen with a custom kuka boot logo. the screen looks like crap, it's a 1995 lcd. photo of the pendant screen, windows 95 booting.

in reply to Lynnesbian

It's not that bad, just forgetting to check if remote posts are actually coming from the server they claim to be from
in reply to Mark

@mark i mean yes it's not that bad in the sense that you won't have your data exfiltrated or anything, but it's very bad in the sense that (once the details are revealed) any user can impersonate any other user

as the CVSS score says, confidentiality impact is pretty much none, but integrity and authenticity is max

it’s a good one. Would require a few more listens than the two I already had to get to know it better.

Print came out decently. Definitely a ton of supports were created under him which made it a bit of a pain to remove. But the tail and tusks made it without breaking. I’m probably going to try printing him upside down to see if it works out better.
