For Christmas I asked my girlfriend's sister to make a painting of me riding my cat Fishy into battle. I didn't expect her to actually do it, but please take a look at this absolute masterpiece she created. Words cannot express how much I love it.

Frank Thorp V has some great photos on Instagram of members of the 118th Congress (including the alleged sex offender Matt Gaetz): instagram.com/p/DERDRj7x53l/?i…

Gorgeous 4x5 results. I want to figure out what lens he's using. It used to be an Aero Ektar but I'm guessing he might have replaced it for the same reason I did.

I find it difficult to believe anyone looks at photos on Instagram... There's no way to zoom in, they're displayed on a tiny portion of my screen.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron Fair, I might be alone in that. But even spend so little time with most of them, and I consider myself to be pretty dedicated to actually looking at them. Instagram is a cesspit these days, the usual complaints, etc.

as one of those that did last year's survey on Windows, and this year's survey on Arch Linux: Woot 😀

Windows 11 is *such* a shitshow, and Proton is such a game changer, I suspect (ok, #hope) that it's the start of a prolonged trend.

2025 as the Year of Linux Desktop? Obviously not, but maybe we the needle starts moving this year

👻 Ghostty

ghostty.org/

Ghostty is a terminal emulator that differentiates itself by being fast, feature-rich, and native.

While there are many excellent terminal emulators available, they all force you to choose between speed, features, or native UIs. Ghostty provides all three.

This is and has been my approach to life...."Why are you saving it on a pedestal if you are never going to use it?"

I've never understood that sort of thing, but I do believe in having backup/replacement things... 😀

in reply to Muse

My stepmom had like 12 full sets of china because the family kept dumping them on her whenever someone died or downsized. She always took it because it was an "heirloom" but they just sat in a cupboard where no one could see them. She brought out one set for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and that was it. She just moved house so I'm hoping she offloaded some or all of them. (They were all hideous)

I am here to announce that I have decreased #spam on my web contact form from 1 message every 15 minutes (for months straight) to 0 messages in the last week by adding a "I am a spam bot" radio button.

I am not joking.

No I am not using something like ReCaptcha, I literally just added a radio button to the list.

If you add several hidden input fields rendered invisible with CSS so the user doesn't select them, the spam bots often will select them and fill them out.

Discover how to return values from Bash functions!

in reply to It's FOSS

the "echo" variant has the benefit that we can pipe the output to another script:

my_function | grep foobar

This way we can treat a function like any other Linux command call, which makes scripting much more consistent.

although I don't use #gnome , I always support projects which offer a #gui for users to help them configure #settings simply sand easily 👍.

Whenever I find myself feeling concerned about the future of life on Earth, I’m comforted thinking of the humble tardigrade.

Sure, humans may not be here long in the grand scheme of things, but water bears will certainly persevere for millions of years after we’re gone.

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

We can only hope the tardigrades don't invent capitalism, lest they share our same demise.

in reply to Muse

I do have a couple of fancy ones I'll likely never use ... Both for art/drawing and writing.
in reply to Muse

That reminds me. Need to buy another sketch book for ideas.

Last night in the Netherlands: Boy (14) dies, another boy (13) loses hand, dozens need eye surgery, more fine particles emitted than all road vehicles do in a year, €118 million blown up instead of put to use, millions of pets in fear, wildlife disturbed. Private fireworks: great tradition.

Na das hört sich doch schon mal prima an. 👍
