in reply to Brodie Robertson

I don't understand this systemd hate. 2 days ago I need to move my boot loader to another partition and I forgot to delete previous one, so I can't boot to my Arch. But systemd give me emergency shell where I was able to remove old partition and save my OS. Systemd is the best happens with Linux last 10 years

Are there any screenshots of how an example systemd-bsod looks? I can't seem to find any

Cleopatra VII died in 30 BCE & the Great Pyramid of Giza was completed ~2560 BCE.

In other words, the charismatic Egyptian queen lived closer in time to the invention of #Mastodon than to the building of the Great Pyramid. #history

Incidentally, as a former Classics major, I still think about Rome every day. /2

but northwest Georgia is really not worth thinking about that often… 😎
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

@Sheril. Yes, me too! As a student in my School days, I was enthused to read Roman History of 2000 BCE. Watched movies of such grandeur of that era, like Cleopatra, starring Liz Taylor many times! 🙂👍🌹❤️👏🙏

pleasantly surprised by this. i am able to update and render 60k entities with simple linear velocity and a sprite at 60fps on my thinkpad x1. fps starts to suffer around 70k and dips into the high 40s. very much a microbenchmark, but it's a good sign for being able to handle realistic numbers of entities in a real game that has collision detection and stuff.

So what the heck is an 'indie game' nowadays anyway? gamingonlinux.com/2023/11/so-w…

#IndieGame #Gaming

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

as a solo indie dev myself I believe this brings up a good point that we should start distinguishing solo developed games or games made by like two or three people from any sort of game developed by a team that has any sort of specific managerial position in it.

“Non corpo game”

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

simple:

A game made by one or multiple "independent developers" aka. neither access to resources nor funding by big publishers and/or developers.

Meaning <100 people (if we count in all bought-in assets and playtesters) may and usually <10 people (employed directly or indirectly) and a budget <€ 1M.

Anyhing above is #SmallStudio and not #IndieDev!

Heck yeah! Even better for Deck users, they can enjoy the game as it was intended to be played: on a touchscreen. I wonder if there's a way to use the deck's gyros to replicate the original iOS version where you had to go portrait for combat.

Here's my poster for #ABACBS2023!

We compared different #eDNA taxonomic classifiers across different simulated datasets of 12S and 16S metabarcoding data.

MMSeqs2 generally 'wins' closely followed by BLAST.
With exclusion databases it becomes apparent that standard Kraken2 produces many, many false positives. With some families like snappers, all classifiers can't assign more than ~30% of sequences.

(not shown is COI, where MMSeqs2 and Mothur are working best)

in reply to Frank Aylward

@foaylward Thanks!!! We have a whole Comms team who help with the poster, it's amazing compared to my academic life.
I sent them an initial outline in powerpoint and my ggplot figures, we had a few calls and sits together. they redrew the figures in illustrator to make them nice! the text is relatively unchanged, which is why there's so much of it 😀
