So, I don't think biomedical researchers realize how much is at stake with the upcoming election. Take a look at some snippets from Project2025, the blueprint for the next Trump Administration and then be afraid. Then get organized. The plan is to end biomedical research as we know it. Ignoring it and putting our heads in the sand is not an option.
Funding for scientific research should not be controlled by a small group of highly paid and unaccountable insiders at the NIH, many of whom stay in power for decades. The NIH monopoly on directing research should be broken. Term limits should be imposed on top career leaders at the NIH, and Congress should consider block granting NIH’s grants budget to states to fund their own scientific research. Nothing in this system would prevent several states from partnering to co-fund large research projects that require greater resources or impact larger regions. Likewise, the establishment of funding for scientific research at the state level does not preclude more modest federal funding through the National Institutes of Health: The two models are not mutually exclusive.
Cap indirect costs at universities. Currently, the federal government pays a portion of the overhead expenses associated with university-based research. Known as “indirect costs,” these reimbursements cross-subsidize leftist agendas and the research of billion-dollar organizations such as Google and the Ford Foundation. Universities also use this influx of cash to pay for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts. To correct course,

Ohhh.. this might be an adolescence whale, exploring, and then he or she got separated from its pod, and then lost. I'm sorry the whale is far, far away from its safe home and family. They have underwater sound communication. The whale is no doubt sending out signals of its location.....but will those signals be heard at such a great distance? The family pod knows this whale is missing - but will their sound signals be heard? The distance between them is vast.

Got linked to this today about Roblox not working on Linux / Steam Deck. Wine *was* intentionally blocked, their own developers even clearly said so and it's not the first time.

But Roblox claims it’s not personal. “Confirming there has been no change on our end to specifically block Linux or Steam Deck since Roblox never supported Linux or Steam Deck officially,” spokesperson Samantha Spielman tells The Verge. “We’re constantly improving our Hyperion anti-cheat functionality, so it’s possible whatever the author was doing was no longer compatible with our anti-cheat systems,” Spielman added.

Bad news for Roblox fans on Linux — the workarounds are dead. GamingOnLinux reports that the latest version of Roblox “forcefully blocks it from working with Wine,” though Roblox says it’s not intentional.
