AI voiced audiobooks have been a boon to indie creators by giving them access to the audiobook market without having to paying for studio time for human narrators.

It means there’s now even more content for readers that needs filtering and narrators are losing gigs. This is what #disruption looks like. Two steps forward and one step back.

I will probably delete this toot later.
I have seen AI-generated images containing the same elements (e.g. an AI-generated image with the same amount of cats, two small, and one large white cat with intricate golden patterns, a lotus flower, and a remaining coin at the top) & the same colors in my artwork. I especially mean the right picture in the three-pictured layout.

How should I feel about such situations?

Sigh. Google flagged gamingonlinux.com/2024/05/clas… as containing "Malicious or unwanted software" with no way on the adsense control panel to speak to them, to get them to recheck it.

It's a news article about a game, that links to the GPL source code (GitHub) and a Steam page.

What about that is "Malicious or unwanted software" exactly?

it sucks that Google dominates web search. I've switched to using DuckDuckGo and Ecosia. I know Bing powers them, but still more refreshing to use those services. I hope Google doesn't keep you down!

If you're, say, occupying space somewhere with other people, you'll need to have a way to make hard decisions—like, say, how to face attacks by fascists or police.

That's why my lab is building CommunityRule.info, a tool for designing self-governance practices, grounded in mutual aid.

"Big project problems" are certainly problems to have, word to #NixOS - because it is easy to FLAKE on community GOALS when CONTENTION is more important than CONSENSUS.

I'm DYING to know the outcome... *cough*...

Not a point of contention at all.

I know Sony made a mistake but I feel like the outcome and customers' response to the forced login should have been obvious from the get-go.

Still, I am glad they turned it around. 🙂

I enjoyed the article. It was the era of the sideshow where creatives and cranks could inspire and make one wonder from the safety of the audience.

Alright, sent an email to the head of my local library about setting up a seed library there.

Seeds libraries are places you can go and "check out" seeds. Grow the seeds. Let one of the grown plants go to seed. Harvest the seeds. Then "return" the seeds back to the seed library!

Free seeds!!!!

Check and see if you have a seed library near you: communityseednetwork.org/map/

Or connect and share seeds with folks online:
exchange.seedsavers.org

#solarPunk #seedLibrary #libraryEconomy #urbanGardening

in reply to Tinker ☀️

Update on the local Seed Library (see previous posts in this thread for background)!

We've got official approval to start building it out!

We'll start the official planning, building, and then community awareness initiatives and concurrent programming and training!

Yay free seeds for the town!

Yay free classes on gardening and hydroponics!

Gardening is one thing. Community is another thing entirely.

Build community. Feed each other.

#solarPunk #hydroponics #indoorGardening #gardening #urbanGardening

in reply to Tinker ☀️

THEY DID IT!!!!

My local library built the seed library!

The local Master Gardeners provided a lot of the intitial seeds (oh my gosh we are stocked!!!). They used an old card catalogue to store them. Today's the kickoff!

The idea is you "check out seeds" from the library, plant/grow/harvest, let some go to seed, then "return the seeds" back to the library!

Free seeds for everyone!

Editing to add my library's Seed Library web site: librarypoint.org/seed-library/

Always nice to see music videos still shot on film. New Blossoms single.

#NowPlaying #NP #FilmIsNotDead #BlossomsBand

Eugen Rochko reshared this.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

I don't think so.

I'd bet a lot of money it was shot digitally, and made to look like film. And they did a bad job, throwing every bad film filter they could find at it.

Portions of most frames are way to sharp and clean to be shot with film cameras that have so many other problems.

Sorry

in reply to Steve

@steve I understand your skepticism but I looked up the director of photography Ewan Ogden and found a post on his Instagram where he credits a lab for scanning the 16mm film and Kodak for the film stock for this music video.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@steve Having watched it, I think some is film and some is digital+effects.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

On the other end of the musical spectrum, Knocked Loose did their newest video entirely on film.

The Helldivers 2 furore is bonkers. If you missed it, Sony, seemingly against wishes of the dev studio, pushed to add a mandatory PSN Network sign-in months after launch on one of their biggest, most popular games on PC, and not only did the community revolt (dropping review score into the teens), but the game is now pulled from 177 storefronts and Steam are issuing refunds (as PSN only works in certain countries). The studio has told players to make their voices heard

UK Government replies to petition about requiring publishers to keep games working gamingonlinux.com/2024/05/uk-g…

#Gaming #PCGaming

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

not sure I agree with this, I think government intervention is the best approach here — the law we need is basically exactly the EU cookie law but for online services: any server or account that is genuinely required to make the game work is allowed without change but ones that exist purely to track or police users must be strictly optional and users can't be penalised for opting out. The penalty can be the same: 4% of gross income. The EU passing that law seems to me way more realistic than expecting consumers to boycott basically the entire AAA games industry when that industry has been basically evil for years now and hasn't been boycotted out of that yet.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

it would be nice to see a similar petition where the ask it to have a publication of the server side software as open source or even source available so communities car run their own servers or even on localhost
