Is there a problem with the server? My podcast app can't connect and if I go to the web page the connection gets timed out.

Media people and organisations, start your own Fediverse servers! This is your chance to be in control of what you publish!

By remaining on Twitter you are helping Musk control you and your readers. You used to be in control before Twitter. The Fediverse is your chance to get back that control.

It is really cheap and easy!

Non-techy people go here:

➡️ growyourown.services/grow-your…

Techy people go here:

➡️ docs.joinmastodon.org/user/run…

The @TexasObserver has just started its own server, for example.

hi hello we are a two person indie game studio and we make narrative horror games scarlet hollow and slay the princess.

i guess we live here now!

we mostly post about our games, but we also talk about games marketing and narrative design.

#JohnMastodon is proof that things *CAN* go viral here on Mastodon, but the key is that *YOU* are the algorithm. The reason that the John Mastodon meme showed up on other people's timelines is because so many users boosted the posts.

The lesson here is: please don't just favourite something if you really enjoyed it; BOOST it so that other people can enjoy it, too! This is the only reason why I bother to create as large a social graph as I can on Mastodon—to act as an amplifier. You can, too!❤️😉

Project Mushroom

I’m genuinely curious to see what comes of this project. It seems like they have the right idea in defining it as an online community that is incidentally on Mastodon rather than an instance first.

I think Mastodon would be a lot less annoying for most users if local feeds were given the same priority as the fediverse.

And instead of trying to rebuild Twitter here, it’s helpful to remember Twitter dot com is a website but not the whole web

Hey all, NightBlade here. Most of you know me from Twitter. I'm a solo evenings/weekends #IndieDev #GameDev dad. I mostly make smaller 2d pixel art games.

Currently wrapping up #GemWorlds for release on Steam: Linux, Windows, and MacOS. Inspired by the #puzzle games Supaplex and Boulder Dash from my youth, with a mixture of #roguelike elements and a touch of minimalism.

Check it out, every wishlist and follow helps:

Amid Evil is one of the best games I played on my new Steam Deck so far. Not sure why, but it feels more at home than Doom 2016, for example.

This would be a really really good time to support the admins of the Mastodon server you're on.

Find their support links, chuck them at least the price of a coffee each month.

Putting my money where my mouth is.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Most servers have 2 patreons, one for server costs, and one little tip jar for the admin.

Most instance admins won't take money for themselves from the server cost patreon, so if you want to support your instance admin, be sure to chip in for them, too!

Good to hear. I'm not sure if Matrix.org is having any needs right now regarding that. I'm not sure what my current support for them is right now either. I *was* supporting them on liberapay, and ... I may have allowed it to lapse.

Totally, totally pathetic. Twitter is no longer allowing promotion of "prohibited 3rd-party social media platforms" like Instagram, Mastodon, Facebook, Post, etc. Free speech! help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-…

There's an Elon tweet for every shitty move he does.

So about banning a bunch of other social networks now in place on Twitter.

Here it is. My first ever post on Mastodon. I wanted to make sure I got off on the right foot here, so I’m including a “Cat Pic” as my offering to the Social Media Gods. We shall see if they are appeased.
Bruno eyes a beautiful glass ornament from his perch 2/3rds off the way up our Christmas tree. There are no more glass ornaments in our tree, he got 3 later that night. The rest went back in the box.

Wonder what it’s like to be on the Moon? #Apollo17 astronaut Harrison Schmitt said:

“Working on the Moon is a lot of fun. It’s like walking around on a giant trampoline all the time and you’re just as strong as you were here on Earth, but you don’t weigh as much.” #Apollo50th

Smartest thing NASA ever did, putting Jack Schmidt on the moon.
in reply to NASA

Watching the moon walkers, I wondered about this. We'd see them bounce about, but always very gingerly, and no one does the great leaps that early SciFi movie astronauts enjoyed.

You do weigh less yet have the same strength, but you also still have the same inertial mass. Wouldn't that cause problems when stopping or turning?

It's like the great spinning space stations. Who would have thought the coriolis effect would pose such a problem?

Various people have been talking about a gathering of cooperative and collectively owned and operated instances (mostly here: matrix.to/#/#democratic-fedive…)

I set up a public Loomio subgroup on the social.coop Loomio for organizing an initial event.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in helping to organize this event for early 2023, please join this subgroup.

As somebody that has been using forums for as long as I can remember, I can honestly say that the #GamingonLinux forum is one of the most welcoming I have ever had the honor of participating in… Granted, I’m not there very often, but whenever I am, I am always impressed at how friendly and helpful most members are. I don’t always agree with Gaming on Linux’s choices or opinions, but I rate their forums as some of the best, especially within the #Linux Community.
